On this date, in both 2014, as well as in 2015, "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" profiled former Georgia Congressman Paul Broun, who became infamous for giving a speech in front of a backdrop of dozens of deer trophies where he claimed that evolution and the Big Bang Theory were "lies from the pit of Hell", which was really sad considering he was on the House Science Committee. He was also a big climate change denier, telling the John Birch Society that "global warming is a hoax" in 2010, advocating for racial profiling by the TSA to harass people that appeared to be Middle Eastern, and repeatedly calling the Obama administration socialist or comparing its policies to Nazi Germany. Broun’s affection for appearing around dead animals also didn’t serve him so well after the death of Zimbabwe's cherished Cecil the Lion in July of 2015, when Broun responded to the controversy by bragging about killing and eating a lion himself in Zimbabwe, displaying the taxidermied remains in his office. Broun tried running for Georgia's U.S. Senate seat in 2014, and lost in the primary to David Perdue. Because of Georgia election law, that left him unable to also run for his U.S. House seat, which he had to give up in January 2015, and he decided to try and weasel his way back into Congress in 2016 by challenging incumbent Republican Doug Collins for his seat to represent Georgia’s 9th District, instead of his old one back in Georgia’s 10th District, that is now occupied by Jody Hice. Broun got crushed in that race, only receiving 22% of the vote, and entering his seventies as it happened, it seems his career has come to a screeching halt.
In 2016, as well as 2017, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” presented our original profile of the now U.S. House Representative for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, Jason Lewis, who did manage to win office in 2016 over Democrat Angie Craig by about 6,000 votes, to replaces former House Rep. John Kline in Congress. This is unfortunate, as we have discussed, Lewis was most famous for being a radically conservative radio talk show host in Minnesota, who famously quit live on air right after promoting his own Ayn Rand-inspired libertarian website that has interesting topics like “exposing the global warming hoax,” promoting a “Free Market Education,” and championing states’ rights. Lewis just up and walked off the job in about the most unprofessional manner possible.
No matter how good the results have been for Governor Mark Dayton in Minnesota as the state has come to boom under Democrats’ policies, Lewis has refused to give an iota of credit to them for it, clinging to ideology before any reason. And that’s putting it mildly…
Let’s just recap some of the highlights from Jason Lewis’ time on air… back on November 9th, 2012, he reacted to the election loss of Mitt Romney by looking at the racial demographics of it… and lamenting, how white people were committing “cultural suicide” and “political suicide” with their failure to procreate at the same level as Hispanics. “I don’t want to make a racial thing out of this. I’m just stating a fact.” he said, beside himself about President Obama having won a second term.
Two days later on November 11th, 2012, Lewis was still looking at demographics that the Republicans lost, this time female voters, and he had this rant:
Silly idiot ladies casting a vote without even knowing what they’re thinking, except they can get birth control easier… am I right, fellas?”I never thought in my lifetime where’d you have so many single, or I should say, yeah, single women who would vote on the issue of somebody else buying their diaphragm. This is a country in crisis. Those women are ignorant in, I mean, the most generic way. I don’t mean that to be a pejorative. They are simply ignorant of the important issues in life. Somebody’s got to educate them. There's something about young, single women where they’re behaving like Stepford wives. They walk in lockstep—is that really the most important thing to a 25-year old unmarried woman—uh, getting me to pay for her pills? Seriously?! Is that what we’ve been reduced to? You can be bought off for that? You’ve got a vast majority of young single women who couldn’t explain to you what GDP means. You know what they care about? They care about abortion. They care about abortion and gay marriage. They care about The View. They are non-thinking.”
Yeah, Lewis is that terrible, and then some. How much of an ***hole does someone have to be to pitch-hit for Rush Limbaugh? Because Lewis got to do that back in in 2008, where he compared taxing the rich to “slavery”, and in 2009 he decided to start demonizing victims of Hurricane Katrina were “a bunch of whiners”. He’s used the Supreme Court’s previous rulings on slavery as well when discussing their rulings on same sex marriage, and even since leaving talk radio, has spoken about the income disparity between whites and African Americans in less than endearing ways, saying, “the median income for blacks in America would make them rich in most African nations.”
Of course, there are two phrases we’ve seen in discussing Jason Lewis’ opinions that seem to have a common thread. What do you think of when you think of when you see “states’ rights”, and “slavery”? It might be that you just thought of the Civil War, and guess what? Lewis has some opinions on that. He once suggested a Constitutional amendment to allow states the right to secede from the union, and also questions why the Civil War needed to be fought, arguing that it was fought over “states’ rights” and not slavery, at all (which is false).
And we all know how important defending the Confederacy is to voters way north of the Mason-Dixon line in Minnesota, right?

And for those who need a reminder that Jason Lewis takes his inner ***hole to the floor for House votes, we’ll review his voting record for you:
- February 16th, 2017: Lewis votes for HJR 69, to make it legal for hunters on wildlife reserves to kill several species of hibernating bears or wolves while they’re sleeping. Because… well, the logic really isn’t there as to why, it’s just awful.
- March 16th, 2017: Jason Lewis votes for HR 1181, which would allow veterans deemed mentally incompetent to continue to own firearms, and not have them taken away without a judge's written order. We feel safer already.
- March 28th, 2017: Rep. Lewis votes for SJ Res 34, which allowed internet providers to sell the data information of their customers' internet usage to businesses. Well, so much for privacy.
- May 4th, 2017: Lewis votes for the House GOP's healthcare plan, that would kick roughly 24 million people off their health insurance plans, allow up to 28,000 more people to die a year, give $50,000 in tax breaks to millionaires, and would eliminate coverage for pre-existing conditions which would include such medical conditions as pregnancy (current or past), postpartum depression, or prior sexual assault.
Oh, and a provision in the bill would make sure that Lewis would be allowed to keep his healthcare plan as it exists under the ACA, which would be repealed for the rest of the country. He and his Republican compatriots threw themselves a beer bash to celebrate taking away healthcare from millions and then gloated about it with Donald Trump at a White House press conference, as well.- June 8th, 2017: Jason Lewis votes for HR 10, the GOP’s attempt to repeal Dodd-Frank financial reform, because what the country really needs is to allow the big banks to make the same mistakes that imploded the economy only a decade earlier.
- October 3rd, 2017: Lewis votes for HR 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, that would try to create an unconstitutional ban abortion at 20 weeks (even though medical science tells us fetuses do not have the capability to feel pain until 29 weeks).
- December 19th, 2017: Jason Lewis votes for HR 1, the GOP’s $1.7 trillion tax cut to benefit the wealthiest Americans and corporations permanently that coincidentally also removes the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate and kicks 13 million people off their health insurance.
- February 18th, 2018: Lewis and his fellow Republicans decide that poor big businesses are suffering too much at the hands of the Americans with Disabilities Act too much, and vote for HR 620, which would strip most of the civil rights protections guaranteed by it.
Lewis has further shown he doesn’t give a f*** about his constituents by refusing to hold a town hall and explain his vote for Trumpcare or say even his vote to prevent federal funding to go to his own state to fund a light rail project in Minnesota... his constituents have responded by protesting outside his actual home. It seems Jason Lewis doesn’t like siege tactics on his homestead very much, and would rather put the screws to the citizenry without having to answer for it.
Angie Craig is out to avenge her narrow loss in 2018, and with a highly-predicted Blue Wave behind her, she’s likely to pull it off and send Lewis scrambling back to the airwaves to serve as a poor man’s Limbaugh, and with any luck reclaim the House for the Democrats. Especially because… even more audio recordings have emerged of Jason Lewis. Here’s a sampling of his thoughts on race, which amount to bigoted lies:
”There’s a cultural problem in the African-American community that is leading to this. The entitlement mentality. You’re a victim. It’s OK to hate women, beat up women. It’s OK to hate gays. All this, we’re just sort of feeding this to people who are very lost because of the breakdown of society to begin with.
What the welfare state has done to the black community, a hundred years of racism could not do. A hundred years of racism could not break it up, it could not destroy black families. Jim Crow could not do it.”“You simply can’t say the same thing about other groups. But when there is a festival, a gathering, call it what you will — June ninth, Juneteenth or urban weekend in Miami Beach or Myrtle Beach and Indianapolis. When there is a predominantly black festival, there’s trouble.”But that’s not all, audio also was uncovered where Jason Lewis gave his thoughts about Rush Limbaugh’s sexist attacks on Sandra Fluke, and big surprise, he’s an ***hole who had Rush’s back, and went on an unprompted sexist tirade, and lamenting why he just couldn't "call women sluts" if he thought that's what they were:“The violent racial crime that’s going on, and most of it black on white, but the media choose to ignore that as well. Now, no one can discount the horrible legacy of slavery. No one can discount the sin of America’s past — but the chances today, and I want to be clear about this, I know it’s provocative, but I want to be clear — the chances today of a gang of KKK members beating up a black kid are remote compared to the opposite. A gang of black on white crime.”
Jason Lewis is currently trying to laugh his comments off as being “out of context” just like you’d expect as part of the “GOP-defense for being a s***heel” recommends. So, we’re going to put this in context…
This November, we hope decent people turn out to the polls, and help Angie Craig send this revolting excuse for a human being packing.

How many people on here arguing against him would not support a Democrat if the single issue they didn’t support was abortion or gay marriage? My guess is quite a few. Point being everybody has their thing.
My thing is that people keep trying to make it out to be a 100% pass or fail purity test. It’s like no, there are aspects of the center right of the party that I am vehemently opposed to and they effect me more directly than the other issues I find I agree with them on. So when I voted for Clinton I compromised on massive things that directly effected me for the benefit of others. Who then bitched that I was a Bernie Bro who made it harder for her. Fuck that noise. I didn’t make the DNC’s decision to decide she was their preferred candidate years before the primary.
And yeah there is validity that the people asking the left wing voters to compromise are the ones who scream that left wing candidates have no chance to win a general in the primary or would struggle in the Midwest (even though the left wing candidate in the last Presidential election performed well in the Midwest and the establishment candidate list the election there)
Yeah, that would be my guess. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall in the Oval Office when Major Dad and/or Mad Dog had to break the news to the Tyrant Toddler than his precious parade was an albatross the GOP couldn't afford and would have to be scrapped. And you can bet the mortgage and the kid's college fund Trump whined like a five year denied cookies before dinner because he wouldn't get to have his ego stroked by the Armed Forces which was what that had been all about from jump street.

I don't think there are many single issue voters here.
I am 100% convinced that if Bernie Sanders hadn't run, or had thrown in the towel when it became clear he didn't have a chance, Trump would not be your president. My thing is that people keep trying to make it out to be a 100% pass or fail purity test. It’s like no, there are aspects of the center right of the party that I am vehemently opposed to and they effect me more directly than the other issues I find I agree with them on. I didn’t make the DNC’s decision to decide she was their preferred candidate years before the primary.
And it's only natural that people are not down with a non-Democrat swooping and trying to get the Democrat nomination for president.
Hillary Clinton was the leftwing candidate. She was the most leftwing candidate you had in decades. Her policies did not differ substantially from Sanders's anyway, they just had different areas they prioritised. And yeah there is validity that the people asking the left wing voters to compromise are the ones who scream that left wing candidates have no chance to win a general in the primary or would struggle in the Midwest (even though the left wing candidate in the last Presidential election performed well in the Midwest and the establishment candidate list the election there).
And another user ignored.
Don't have time for lecturing on what an idiot I was because I didn't vote correctly and therefore I'm disqualified from engaging in discussions.
Again; go after people who didn't vote at all.
The Russian attack was more about stopping Clinton than helping Trump. That is the only advantage Sanders would have had, and even isn't much. Since helping Trump and the republicans has become the Russian Foreign Policy mantra. Sanders wouldn't have been able to beat Trump. Sanders would have found his own campaign hacked, and he wouldn't know what to do about it.

1. No there are definitely people here that would not vote for a Democrat if he were anti abortion. People on here list it when Sanders said we shouldn’t be so ideologically pure with certain candidates on that issue.
2. There is nothing to prove that. In addition Hillary ran a much nastier campaign against Obama in a situation where she needed superdelegates to screw him to win. He still won with record numbers. Thats not a particularly good excuse.
3. She was not a leftwing candidate. She was left of Republicans. She’s not leftwing. And the closest thing to leftwing policies she as were on social issues she flip flopped on AFTER it didn’t latter what her position was.
