Surprised you couldn't blame Hillary or Nancy.

-So Trump cuts Government employment right before Christmas
-Trump shuts down government despite a bipartisan agreement for budget
-He's fully pulling out of Syria
-He made troops miss Thanksgiving with their families to attack immigrants and border crosses
    -ICE

And we know he's corrupt even if he isn't fully aware of it. Why does anybody like him? The economy is still plummeting and he's fucked up the Government's operations. Why would anybody support this *******?

One theory I heard is that, those who supported him under the 'delusion' he was a successful businessman who would make the country run like a successful business, are now too emotionally invested in Trump to admit that they were wrong. They are in denial since, to say otherwise makes them look and sound stupid. Stupid enough to have allowed themselves to be mislead by him.

It plays to their fragile egos and sense of self worth and self esteem.

The explanation for why some people like Trump despite four of the above is that Trump seems to be doing something about illegal immigration, whereas the Democratic plan is to basically give them full citizenship at some point in the future.

The Syria pull-out is too recent to be polled but some people are going to like the US not being involved in a foreign conflict where neither of the main sides is that good.
    Sincerely,

I think that has a lot to do with it. You see it all the time in the excuses and mental gymnastics they do to excuse everything. They know full well if Hillary had won and did even a fraction of the **** Trump has done and gotten away with they would be forming up the armed militias by now.

It is too embarrassing to admit they were wrong now. He lied to their faces for years rally after rally about getting this big beautiful wall and Mexico would pay for it. But, here we are in a #trumpshutdown because he isn't getting OUR money to pay for it. There is no excuse for them to be so dismissive of the blatant LIES.

Look how quickly he reacts to the base or (conservative media) turning on him when it seemed like he was going to sign the bipartisan deal. He is only doing this for politics. It is a fake issue, he was going to sign until Rush, and Laura Ingraham started coming for him as a base traitor. To be so scared of that low number of racists and idiots that never grows.

You see any actual supporter in person trying to discuss this there is no reasonable explanation for accepting the lie that we have to pay now. Add to that he's now blaming Democrats again after he explicitly told the American people and Chuck and Nancy in full view of cameras HE ASKED to be there that he would own the shutdown and wouldn't blame them.

Yup. I suspect that is what happened with two close relatives of mine. Now that they see what a disaster the reign of Troll King Donald has become, they have pretty much stopped defending him or talking about him, period. Now one of them says they are independent and doesn't really trust either party.

In a few years once he's out of office, there'll be very few people who'll admit to having been trump voters.

They support him because he's shown himself to be a standard bearer for their bigotry, and these people are so ignorant and stupid, they don't care that they'll be the ones hit hardest by his sheer incompetence. Trump doesn't like brown people, and that's good enough for them.

I imagine a liberal and an alt-right conservative adrift in a boat, and the latter takes an axe to the bottom so he can watch the lib drown.

The "alt-right" are moderate conservatives. The bigoted, fascist right wingers are the mainstay of the GOP now.

You Can't Serve Both Trump and America: The departure of Jim Mattis is proof that you cannot have it all.

Mattis was also the man who said, “Engage your brain before you engage your weapon,” the commander who praised the quick-thinking Marine squad leader who was smart enough to take a knee when he saw a Shia funeral procession filled with armed men walk by in the newly liberated streets of Nasiriyah, in southern Iraq. And above all, he was the division commander who, when his tour was over, got in a car and crossed the country visiting families of his fallen Marines. To see him explaining to his security detail and his driver the political importance of driving into downtown Ramadi to hobnob with the potentially hostile sheikhs was to see leadership of a subtle kind. Those young Marines were ready to follow him anywhere. Literally, anywhere.

The president had a vague notion of the killer part when he appointed Mattis. He had no notion of the morally and strategically informed restraint, of the intellectual sophistication, of the selflessness.

It was not Mattis’s idea to become secretary of defense, and indeed, he may not have been the best pick for the job in normal times. But then again, 2017 was anything but a normal time, and even those who believed that the job should in principle go to a real civilian rather than a retired general were relieved that Mattis took it. In office, he had to spend most of his time buttressing the alliances that the president despised, and affirming values of fairness and legality that Trump could not comprehend. Success in government is often measured less by the brilliant things one does than by the stupidities one prevents. By that standard, Mattis’s tenure as secretary of defense was a success.
The departure of Jim Mattis from government service is proof that you cannot have it all. You have to walk if you are to remain the human being you were, or conceived yourself being, before you went in. He alone refused to curry favor, to pander at the painful televised Cabinet sessions, or to praise someone who deserved none of it. In the end, he could not do his job and serve the country as he knew it had to be served. No one could.

The more important questions may be: How bad does it have to get before his base sours on him and can our society come back from that point?

Screw his base, they are really maybe 25% of voters. His approval is barely out of the 30s% because the economy hasn't slumped yet.
His base may be important in GOP Primaries, but they don't win elections, as the November showed.
His deplorable base will be marginalized when he is gone., as they should be.
