Seriously, Lincoln has as much to do with todays GOP as Oliver Cromwell or Pompeii.

Pulling out Lincon to defend today's racist, fascist GOP is a sorry argument.
It stopped being the Party of Lincoln with Nixon. It's the Party of Trump now.

If Byrd could still remain in office, so should Northam.

So what if Northam was a Klansman? the Democrats apparently forget some of their members were also Ku Klux Klansmen like Robert Byrd, Edward Douglass White, John Brown, Theodore G. The far right doesn't let their followers know the full story of Robert Byrd. He spent one year of his youth in the KKK and the remainder of his adult life warning Americans against the KKK. They just mention that Byrd was in the KKK and leave it at that because they know the far right doesn't bother to research facts as long as it fits their agenda.

    More Virginia Democrats infighting.

Virginia Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax blames Richmond mayor Levar Stoney for the sex assault allegations.

(Fairfax) softened his suggestion as he left the Capitol Monday night, telling reporters he had “no indication” that Mr. Northam was responsible.

But in the same conversation, Mr. Fairfax hinted that Levar Stoney, the mayor of Richmond and a potential rival to Mr. Fairfax for the 2021 Democratic nomination for governor, may have played a role — praising the acumen of a reporter who inquired whether Mr. Stoney might have been responsible.

Asked if he had any involvement in leaking the claims of assault, which first surfaced Sunday night on a right-wing website, Mr. Stoney said, “The insinuation is 100 percent not true, and frankly it’s offensive.”

Just hours after The Washington Post published a story on Monday outlining the woman’s allegation — that Mr. Fairfax assaulted her soon after they had met in Boston at the Democratic National Convention — the lieutenant governor said that he and the woman had had what he called “a 100 percent consensual” sexual encounter.

“We hit it off, she was very interested in me, and so eventually, at one point, we ended up going to my hotel room,” Mr. Fairfax, 39, said, recounting in a measured voice what he said had happened in 2004.

Mr. Fairfax asserted that the woman had subsequently called him and said she wanted him to meet her mother. He said he had no documentary evidence of any further conversations after their sexual encounter in 2004, when he was working as the personal aide to John Edwards, then a senator from North Carolina and the Democratic vice-presidential candidate that year.

Asked if he had seen her since the time in his hotel room, he said, “I don’t believe so.”

The New York Times has reached out to intermediaries for the woman who made the allegation, but they did not immediately comment on Monday.
Fairfax and Stoney are both African American men under the age of 40.

I don't think Fairfax should be surprised that a potential bad story he was aware of would become public the moment he was seen as a likely Governor. These things don't stay secret in the #metoo era.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

And yet no one in the GOP cares that there are 19 woman who have claim Trump sexually assaulted them.
No request that the Traitor in Chief resign.
Kavanaugh proved that the GOP doesn't care about #metoo.

Bernie Sanders asks why drug, once free, now costs $375,000
The drug, Firdapse, treats Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome, a rare neuromuscular disorder affecting one in 100,000 people in the U.S.

In the letter dated Feb. 4, Sanders asked Catalyst to lay out the financial and non-financial factors that led the company to set the list price at $375,000, and say how many patients would suffer or die as a result of the price and how much it was paying to purchase or produce the drug.

Catalyst declined to comment on Sanders' letter.

Catalyst shares fell nearly 8 percent to $2.31

Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders call for restricting corporate share buybacks

The two senators argue for limiting buybacks unless companies raise worker pay, boost benefits and invest in their business.
Large companies are buying back shares while laying off workers, closing stores and shuttering factories.
Last year, more than $1 trillion of corporate share buybacks were announced.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Schools GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw For Absurd Super Bowl Tweet
She slapped down his reference to the champion Patriots in seeking to sack her 70-percent marginal tax idea.

Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL who lost an eye in Afghanistan, kicked off the exchange by asking on Twitter if the Super Bowl champ New England Patriots should be taxed at 70 percent “so that NFL competition is more fair and equal.”

The New York progressive didn’t back down from Crenshaw’s swipe. She threw some NFL salary stats at him, and added exiled quarterback Colin Kaepernick to the conversation.

“The average NFL salary is $2.1 million, so most players would never experience a 70% rate,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “The owners who refuse to hire Kaepernick would, though.”

White House Says Trump’s SOTU Will Be ‘Unifying’ And ‘Optimistic.’ History Promises Something Else.

If history is any guide, President Donald Trump will head to Capitol Hill Tuesday night and call for unity, bipartisanship and a trillion-dollar-plus infrastructure package to fix the nation’s roads and bridges.

And if history is any guide, he will within days or even hours of his State of the Union address let loose divisive attacks against Democrats and other critics and veer off on unrelated tangents. There will not be any infrastructure package.

“When he tries to be presidential, it just isn’t believable,” said David Jolly, a former Republican congressman from Florida. “Even when he speaks rationally, no one trusts him. And he owns that.”
Over/under on when Trump blasts Dems or other enemies via Twitter: 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.
