I’m surprised DC ever leaves things in the past. I thought writers could use any concept they wanted, so it’s strange to see all of them pass on something and leave it on the shelf. Like the other stuff that’s in Action Comics #1 aside from Superman.

Wallace West's anger and frustration with Barry is because he projects his anger towards Daniel West on Barry because he views Barry as a father figure.

I feel like Mairghead Scott's run on Babs shows a more traditionally-written Babs can work, but it was short-lived.

Which is why I hate that run. I liked Steph as Batgirl and she robbed Steph and classic Barbara is just kind of gone like classic Barry Allen.

Oddly enough I liked it especially the costume even though I had some of the same gripes you did.
Reading List (Super behind but reading them nonetheless):
    DC: Currently figuring that out
    Marvel: Read above
    Image: Killadelphia, Nightmare Blog
Other: The Antagonist, Something is Killing the Children, Avatar: TLAB
Manga: My Hero Academia, MHA: Vigilanties, Soul Eater: the Perfect Edition, Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, Witch Hat Atelier, Kaiju No. 8

I wouldn't mind that, I kinda wanted a Lex series myself.

Funny, I didn't like that for Babs, but I didn't like it for Steph, either. Much prefer original Spoiler Steph (attitude and position/title) to the Batgirl version. But I prefer 90s Tim to the 2000s version, too.

I prefer the Spoiler from the Robin run myself, but Steph as Batgirl was a breath of fresh air at a time where it was "you get angsty Tim, dickhead Damian or you can sit and spin." Then DC reboots to get away from her and inside a couple years Steph is back as Batgirl but it's Barbara and everyone is hailing the take. Made me mad.

Before the Superman and Lois series was announced there was talk of a Lex and Lois in Metropolis pre-Superman series. I was pretty psyched for that but it seems to not be happening.

DC has never left anything in the past. No matter how old something is, they will always bring it back.

They've been around for decades. Superman and Lois are still around. Zatara the Magician was used for a time before his death. Tigress was used in the Silver Age and married Sportsmaster.

I'm curious exactly how controversial it is both inside and outside of GL fandom, but I found Hal's journey into villainy quite compelling. The source of his grief and conflict with the corps - the destruction and attempted resurrection of Coast City - was very human. And the ring was used in such an interesting way - manifesting the desires of someone who experienced shocking loss and trauma.

That isn't to say that I regret his return, even with the parallax retcon. But I find this a thrilling chapter in DC history that I think would play out brilliantly in a well-directed film (even if just an animated one). Because sure, we have plenty of anti-heroes and anti-villains, but how often does a bona fide legendary hero go truly bad? The sheer boldness of having a founding JL member becoming a villain...in almost any other similar scenario I can think of, I'd find it a cheap stunt. But there's just something about willpower gone wrong that really appeals to me.

Now I'm fully aware that I can't fully grasp the consequences of this decision as A) I'm not a hardcore Hal Jordan fan, or even a particularly strong GL fan, and B) I started reading comics just as Hal was making his big comeback, having already accepted this incident as ancient history. I can't imagine what it was like reading it unfold.

I'm curious if any Hal fans, once Johns reestablished him as the premier Lantern, were able to look back on the story with a more forgiving lens now that it had been undone. (I imagine I might feel similarly about Reverse Flash killing Nora Allen in Rebirth, should that ever be put right.) And how people feel about the subject in general.

Tigress and Sportsmaster made some Bronze Age appearances too.

I found him far more interesting as a villain than he ever managed to be as a hero.

I came in well after Hal had been brought back and reading through the pre-space bug retcon Parallax appearances that I’ve been able to, the only time he worked as a villain was Final Night and that’s because it was Hal reflecting on how he ended up. Most of the other time he was some cackling Darth Vader-wannabe/Evil Space Overlord and that he happened to be a former major hero was largely irrelevant.
