Well, it has been shown to work.

The DCAU didn't do any storylines that used Green Lantern Stuff.
Yes they did. The Manhunters where featured in an episode which loosely adapted the destruction of Xanshu story. Katma Tui was also in a season

He also works fine as a League member, you only get this problem that you need to "steal" Hal Jordans stuff if he gets promoted to a founder and the first human Lantern, and you give him solo stories.
The DCAU used very little of Hal's character for John. The only thing they "stole" was Sinestro (who is an enemy to all Green Lanterns) and being a founder. I don't see the comics stealing anything from Hal that wasn't available to all Lanterns in the first place.

Hell, if anything DCAU Kyle stole way more from Hal than John did.

Ok they did a little bit of Green Lantern Stuff.

But if they had for example made a Green Lantern Animated Series with John in the DCAU, that's a problem they would have ran into.

They were able to create a three season tv series plus an animated movie for a Batman that didn't exist in the comics. Green Lantern Animated Series didn't just rely on material either.

I suspect this was because of wanting more female leads. Sure, there are other options, but what they did with her was interesting. So, it wasn't really a choice between Hawkgirl or Hawkman. It was more a choice of Hawkgirl or Zatanna, or Vixen, or Kimiyo Hoshi.... etc...

That's a good point. Having a one to six gender ratio is just a bad look. From the available heroes I think Hawkgirl worked well and proved she can stand on her own without Hawkman when written well.

With John Stewart it is similar, he was never really the lead of the Green Lantern Franchise, for a longer periode of time. Most of the major important events and villains of that franchise are either connected with Hal or Kyle. And if they would retcon him to be one of the Founders of the Justice League (like they did with Cyborg in the New52) or make him the main Black Lantern for any adaptations in other media you basically would have to give a lot of Hal's history to John.
Isn't all that the result of DC not doing enough with those 2? How does keeping them off a major team help them?

And they both have more interesting abilities than Hawkman, yet somehow he gets to be on the team.

This is true. What's interesting about that writer though is he ***seemed to*** resent acknowledging her power and randomly paired it with themes of losing humanity. He did acknowledge her many other superhuman attributes though

The Golden Age Diana was all over the place in terms of power

Cyborg has almost always been in teams. Justice League, Teen Titans... etc... not solo books. The closest was as a team lead in a team book.

John? well John has often been the main character in a GJ book. It's not quite the same as a team book since... GL stuff. But it's still a GL title. Thing is though... when has ANY Green Lantern had their actual name on the book?

Hal Jordan and the GL Corps says HI.

Hal has also solo the main GL book.

While Guy and the rest soloed spinoff books.

Jessica & Simon co-starred on the main GL book that at times beat Hal & TGLC.

John has not held one by himself since Mosaic.

The issue many are having is when it comes to John (mainly) and Cyborg-there is an issue with them being on theses teams while OTHERS who have way less are welcomed with open arms.

No one had issues with Scott Free, Barba, Ice, Fire, Ted, Booster, Plastic Man, Guy, Tasmanian Devil, Crimson Fox, Huntress, Triumph, Cap Atom, Steel (80s version), Gypsy and so on.

Yet folks took issue with John, Jason Rsuch, Vixen, Black Lighting and Naomi.

3 of the 5 held solo tv shows. Jason held a run longer than everyone not named Cap Atom or Shazam. So why would they take back seats?

Ok, well then, if they're team players, they they're good fits for the JL, right? And as many have pointed out, less prominent White heroes get into the League without much fuss

Both of them HAVE been in the JL in one or more incarnations of the League. So the question then becomes if they "should" be in this one then. In John Stewart's case they seem to under MOST circumstances, have one GL as a full time leaguer, and the rest as... occasional help. Out of universe it's just a team balance thing where they want to have different GLSs in different books. In-universe, well.. different GLs are typically on different teams and thus different books.

One notable exception was the Young Justice animated series, where League meetings would have seemingly ALL of the Human GLs at the same table. BUT this was like in JLU where there's like 40 members at a full quorum. Having multiple GLS was only when ALL the League got together, not just the main team.

GL membership on the team can rotate then. Although having 2 on the team at once isn't necessarily problematic, is it?

But in terms of "should", I don't think either "shouldn't" be on the team

Don't know the Justice League Detroit (Steel, Gypsy) is usually seen as one of the worst incarnations of this team and Triumph is afaik also pretty disliked.

When it comes to JLI, hard to say, some people like that run because of the humor, some hate it because of it, and attempts to bring that incarnation back have failed sofar. I don't think any of these characters have ever been part of the main Justice League since than. (And I have never seen for example seen anyone argue for Guy to get the GL spot in the Justice League)

You need B and C level heroes in the league because the A listers are always going to have there character development elements split between the league and their main books.
