if that's what you want, here goes. grab some popcorn and something to drink because this is gonna be a long one.

ok. "warmahordes" is a smashed together catch all term for the games of "warmachine" and "hordes". they are basically the same game but with a few minor differences that makes crossplay far more one.

the lore takes place on a planet called caen, specially on a continent called immoren, with "warmachine" taking place on western immoren and and "hordes" on the eastern half.

the lore starts with your standard creation mythos. at the center of it are 3 gods, or as i call them, "primes": menoth, the creator of man and the lawgiver. the devourer wurm, the god of the savage side of nature. and dhunia, the mother goddess. now there is debate amongst people about which god came first and in what order. menites, of course, believe that menoth came first and is the best of all the gods. while others because that menoth was created by dhunia because she was tired of being raped by the wurm. the results of those violations created many other races outside of humanity: trolls, gobbers, orguns, arrows, gatormen, etc. but whichever it is, these 3 are agreed upon to be the first gods to appear on caen.

when menoth and the wurm saw each other, they immediately started throwing down, creating the valleys and mountains of the planet. eventually their battle ascend beyond the physical world and into the spiritual mirror of caen caen called urcaen. before or during the battle with the wurm, mankind appeared from menoth's shadow and he kind of just ignored them for the first few centuries.

during this early time, we saw more gods pop up here and there. among them was the divine court, the 9 gods of the elves. they lived in a section of urcaen called the veld. think rivendale but a lot nicer. another group that would pop up is the 13 stonefathers, the progenators of the dwarf race. the dwarves would found the oldest kingdom in western immoren, rhul.

then you have the dragon toruk. his origin is shrouded in mystery as there is no real story on how he came to be. he simply just.......was. toruk was the only dragon in the world but desired some kids to work for him. dragons in warmahordes have these things calls athancs, a type of heartstone that is the core of a dragon's being. a dragon's body can be destroyed many times over but as long as the athanc still remained, a dragon can regrow their body endlessly. so toruk took his own athanc and split into pieces and each piece grew into a dragon. but there was a problem: all the dragons were just like their dad, in that they believed themselves to be greater than all other beings on caen, including each other. so toruk did what any parent would and tried to eat his kids. there was a epic battle between toruk and his kids, with most of them being eaten by him. the others hid away in secret. among them was the most cunning of the brood named everblight. he will be important later.

so some years passed and menoth began noticing that human souls began showing up in urcaen and that he could draw strength from them. so he thought "if i can get these humans to worship me, i can grow strong enough to merc that damn wurm". so he made himself known to them and thus began the menite religion. menoth gave several gifts to his followers to help them survive in the wilderness of pre-historic immoren, thus creating the first cities.

meanwhile, the divine court created elves, who were stronger, faster, smarter and more long lived than humans. unlike the humans, elves were very close to their gods, who actively added them in creating their society. they advanced to such a degree that they became the first true empire on immoren: the empire of loss. the gods wanted to be closer to their creations so they began a massive building project: a bridge built from both sides of the veil that separated the physical world and the spiritual one. this bridge of worlds was a grand project that lasted for hundreds of years. when it was completely, the divine court walked through and appeared before their people and everything was awesome for the elves.

until it blew up a few seconds later.

the bridge exploded with such power that it utterly wiped out the empire of lyoss and fucked up the land something fierce. it created a desert that split the continent into 2 halves and created the storm lands, which was a land where it stormed day and night. millions of elves were killed in the blast but some were protected by the court themselves. the gods led what was left of their people east to found one last great city, ios. but they began to notice that their powers were fading and left them to find a way back to the veld.

humans were still busy doing human things but that all changed when a pair of twins were born, morrow and thamar. the twins were menites but found the teachings and practices of the church to be too strict and corrupt, so they broke away and found different paths to enlightenment. morrow preached being kind, just, and fair to those around you. thamar taught that you should do whatever you want to get what you want, regardless of what you have to do. in time, both became so powerful that they took over the great city of caspia but thamar was too extreme in her views, forcing her brother to kick her out. years later, she returned at the head of a army to take down her brother who was now the leader of the city. the siblings met in battle, both having become powerful spiritual forces of nature. during the battle, morrow saw what he had become and the damage the battle was doing and thus allow his sister to kill him. in that moment, morrow ascended to godhood. thamar, taking this example, allowed his followers to merc her and thus she too ascended to godhood. both twins would be the center of their own regions: the church of morrow and thamarites.

just as mankind was about to move into a renaissance period, trouble came. from across the sea came the orgoth, a terrifying race of conquerors who landed and started busting head. they took down city-state after city-state, mostly due to many of them believing that the orgoth would stop at just their rivals. by the end of their invasion, most of western immoren was under their control. they did try to invade rhul once but the dwarves kicked their asses wholesale. and they knew the iosan elves were really advanced so they didn't even try to fight them. the entire orgoth period is divided into 3 eras: the first 200 years of the initial invasion, 600 years of the occupation and 200 years for the rebellion.

there were many attempts at rebellion over the years but none really got off the ground. but two major events would lead to the end of their occupation. first was the gift of magic. humans began to be born with the power to use magic, with some believing it to be another gift from menoth. the orgoth feared the what this could mean for their rule so they had literal witch hunts for them. the second was the creation of mechika, the fusion of science and magic. from this fusion came the first steam jacks, giant steam powered robots who could follow commands of a powerful spell caster. using these tools, the humans of western immorren were able to push the orgoth out but not before they took or burned all their records. to this day, no one knows where the orgoth came from of if they are even still around.

the 10 leaders of the rebellion signed the corvis treaty, which set new lines for new kingdoms across western immoren. out of that treaty came 4 kingdoms: cygnar to the south, khador to the north and in between the two were ord and llael. these 4 kingdoms would become known as the iron kingdoms.

    TBC.

1.) A Bethesda-style RPG: Not sure what the story would be (maybe something about rogue traders/inquistors?), but the franchise is absolutely ripe for such a game.
2.) Survival Horror FPS: Set from the perspective of an imperial guardsman, the sheer amount of horror they would have to face while trying not to die would be amazing to see.
3.) Armor-Core-style Mecha Simulator: Whether an Imperial Knight or Titan, everyone digs giant robots
4.) Musou (aka Dynasty Warriors): A simple hack and slash with countless enemies would probably fit the series pretty well

next up, we have the factions.

first is cygnar. cygnar is basically America mixed with England. it is the most advanced nation in western immoren, with the most resources, best economy, and schools. their warjacks are by far the most advanced of the human kingdoms, most being able to use lightning as a power source. recently, it had a major coup as the tyrant king, vinter raelthorne IV was deposed by his younger brother leto. vinter unfortunately escaped before his trial. leto ruled for several years before it was discovered that vinter has a bastard son, Julius. there was a civil war and in the end, leto walked away from the throne and let Julius rule as the rightful king.

next is khador. it's basically russia. no joke. just look at some of the names and places and it's pretty much the USSR. it was a loose government up until a few years ago when ayn vanar crowned herself the first empress of the new khadoren empire. while much larger than cygnar, khador lacks a lot of resources that its rival has. thus, their warjacks are made to last. there is a saying among warmahorde players: "khador jacks are easy to hit but hard to hurt". khador has always had been salty at cygnar due to the corvis treaty. you see, ord and llael were once part of the old khadic empire before it was conquerored by the forgot. when they were kicked out, the khadoren leaders wanted those lands back but they didn't get the chance for it. so the two kingdoms have always been beefing with each other.

llael is, or was, France. it had a storm military and thus was able to fend off invaders from khador. but a few years ago, it was conquered and absorbed into the empire thanks to the tactical genius of supreme commandant irusk and the treachery of many llaellese nobles. there is a llaelese resistance who want to kick the khards out but haven't had much luck.

ord is the last of the original iron kingdom. while lacking a strong army, it makes up for it by having a powerful navy and strong economic ties with the other kingdoms, ensuring relative peace for itself.

next is the protectorate of menoth. you see, over the years, the church of morrow became the more dominate religion in cygnar as opposed to the menite church. many cygnarian kings did actively persecute menites and even forced many of them to live in a satellite kingdom in the land called sul. because of this, many menites are called "sul-menites", noting where they were born. about 100 years ago, the sul-menites launched a civil war against cygnar for independence. they lost but were granted their autonomy, so long as they don't build a army. but they did so anyway, in secret. all that changed when the church leadership learned of a teenage girl in the north of sul who seemed to possess godly powers: she could raise the dead, heal the sick, knew peoples' secret, wore a blindfold all the time , and she perpetually floated above the ground. her name was not known as she identified herself as "the harbinger of menoth". with her appearance, the menite leadership began a massive crusade to bring all the kingdoms of man back under the law giver's guidance. and if they didn't, they would burn them, because sul happen to have a buttload of oil under their land, which they used to make flamethrowers.

far to the west, across the meridius sea lies cyrx, the nightmare empire. it was founded centuries ago by toruk. he turned the 12 pirate lords who ruled the skarde islands into undead beings of bone and metal called lich lords. now unless you had a death wish or were really, REALLY desperate for work, no one goes to cryx.

there are mercenary companies and pirates who will work for various other factions.

ios is not a faction in and of itself but rather a small sect of them. you see, around the time humans began to learn magic, birth rates in ios began to drop and many who were born were born without souls, dubbed "Soulless". many iosans believed that this phenomenon, as well as the missing gods, had something to do with humans gaining the power to use magic. this came to a head when one of the missing gods, scyrah, appeared in the capital and proptly fell into a deep slumber. soon, a radical sect devoted to bringing her out of her coma was formed called the retribution of scyrah. their mission: kill any humans who know magic and find the missing gods.

most recently, a new group has made themselves known: the convergence of cyrris. this cult are worshippers of a goddess called cyrris, who was a god of logic, reasons, science and mathmatics. she required no worship or boons. all she wanted was people to think and reason. the convergence made a major breakthrough recently: they found a way to transfer a living soul into a robot body, effectivally making them immortal.

in the eastern half, we have 4 major factions with two minor ones.

first, the circle orboros or the blackclads for short. they are a small order of druid who serve a god called orboros. now some believe that orboros is a aspect of the wurm but the blackclads deny this. their objective to halt the spread of civilization into the natural world because it make draw the wurm's attention back to caen and cause a great calamity. the circle do not have the numbers of the others groups but make up for it with their unmatch mastery of nature as they can call upon creatures of the forest, savage tribes and even the elements themselves to aid them. their drawback is that it's a cutthroat faction. everyone is trying to backstabe everyone else and it's very rare for warlocks of the circle to work togther for a greater goal.

next, the skorne empire. the skorne are race of lizard like beings who had very little contact with humans. they live for war. peace is a concept that is alien and ugly to them. the skorne believe that there is no afterlife, at least for them. for them, when you die, your soul goes to a black void of pain and agony. to prevent this, a skorne can have their soul implanted into a stone statue, to save their house and family for years to come. now the skorne were just a loose collection of house that feuded with each other over land and slaves. that is, until vinter raelthrone IV arrived. he singlehandedly conquered all the houses and united them into an empire. he planned to use them as a means of getting this throne back in cygnar. when the skorne learned of this, they kicked him and installed his second in command, makeda, as the supreme archdomina.

next are the trollbloods. where as many factions fight for power, land or some greater purpose, the trollbloods of the united kriels are fighting for survival. beset on all sides by enemies, the trollkin had no choice but to unite to survive.

next is the legion of everblight. remember that dragon i mentioned? here's where he comes in. out of all of toruk's kids, everblight was considered the smartest and most cunning. he bided his time and wait for his siblings to die fighting their father while he watched. over time, he began to manipulate various kingdoms in secret, most notable the dark kingdom of morrdh. soon he moved on ios and almost gain control of them until they pissed him off and almost got him killed by his dad. everblight's body was wrecked but his athanc remained. the iosans didn't know how to destroy it but they did the next best thing. they seal it up in a special jar and buried it in the mountains, where he couldn't grow back his body. everblight raged for decades before he began to plan his escape. he found it in a enslaved orgun named thagrosh. he whispered into his dreams and guided him to his jar where he freed him. thagrosh took his hunting knife, cut open his chest and stabbed the athanc into his heart, fusing himself with it. he became something more than a simple orgun and that something would spell doom for the cousins of the iosan elves, the nyss. with the help of a traitorous nyss witch named vayl, thagrosh assault the villages of the nyss, using the dragon's blight to turn them into his servants. with the addition of several orgun tribes into the fold, the legion of everblight was born. what the legion lacks in numbers, they make up for in speed and organization. you see, all the warlocks of the legion have a piece of the dragon's athanc in them, allowing them to not only talk to each other over long distances but to be in constant communion with everblight himself.

the first of the two minor factions is the thornfall alliance. this group is a union of farrow (pig men) tribes, lead by, and this is his actual name, lord carver BMMD (bringer of most massive destruction) III esq. carver loathes humans and created the alliance as a kingdom to surpass humans.

the second is the blindwater congregation. this group is made up of gatormen tribes, lead by the power bokar named Barnabas. barnabas' goal is create a battle so bloody, so gory and so deathfilled that he would use it to become a literal death god.

Right, so I was a bit drunk last night and I did not clock that Warmahordes is a separate thing to WH40K.

Your comment, which you totally pointed out, was an analogy rather than a thing that was actually happening in WH40K lore.

My apologies, reading comprehension took a hit after the fifth cider.

it's cool, man. the sauce can do that to ya.

damn. i forgot a faction. well, they are less of a faction and more of a group who happen to be grouped together.

the grymkin are the servant of the defiers, a group of god-like beings who have rebelled against some form of reality on caen: the child who rebels against adults and their rules, the wanderer who rebels paved roads and obstructions in his path of freedom, the dreamer who rebels against the waking world, the king of nothing who rebels of groups and society as a whole (this guy loves solitude so much that nothing alive can exist around him) and the heretic who rebels against the church and menoth himself. the big M didn't like these guys and personal smacked them all down to the worst parts of urcaen, which is the closest thing you can get in this lore to hell. after several thousand years, the defiers were freed by one of khador's most powerful beings, the old witch of khador.

Ao No Exorcist: So, here we are. Rin vs Satan-Yukio. Thankfully, it looks like it'll be a much better fight than the anime version.
    Ichigo: What even *are* you?!

Kenpachi: Some say my mother was a train. Some say that I'm a rejected Godzilla monster too strong for the series canon. But everyone says: I'M THE KEEEEENPACHIIIIII!!!!

    *slams head into a wall*

Hey everybody! Did you know that uru is actually moon rock!?

    *more head slamming*

So mjolnier is totally made up of a piece of the moon!

*slams a hole in the wall*

So naturally that means that Moon Knight can controll mjolnier that same way Magneto would a hunk of metal, completely overriding all its mystical enhancements and Thor's own will!

    *slamming stops due to exhaustion*

Yes, this is from a comic written by Jason Aaron, why do you ask?!

Why does Marvel keep handing the creative reins of Thor over to this guy? It's like Dan Slott and Spiderman all over again.

So I went for a hike on the weekend, with a couple of my hiking friends (and since none of us has really left our houses in a month, it was nice to get out and explore).

And I made a new friend.

    101057621_10218832321451802_2635527293014900736_o.jpg

He was very friendly. Worryingly so, he came right up to us and stood about two feet away from me. Apparently he lives in the environmental park (where we were walking) and he's quite famous for hanging out with mountain bikers and joining runners and hikers. He walked with us for a few hundred metres (it was so surreal. Three guys and their pet emu, going for a walk), before he just stepped off into the scrub. And, like, it was kind of terrifying (because they're big animals. The second-largest bird in the world), but it was also one of the most amazing things that's ever happened to me.
