From what I'm hearing the rating is not a mistake: somehow the second part of rebel moon, which ostensibly has the entire defense of the village and of which the first part was apparently building for, is somehow worse and less experimental than the first part

Well, not exactly. Instead of Yuji as some people assumed, it turns out Yuji's father is the reincarnation of Sukuna's unborn twin, who he consumed in their mother's womb because even as a baby, he was an *******. It's also sorta implied that Kenjaku may have been the midwife, so that's another layer of squickiness regarding that disgusting bastard. And Gojo was apparently right about his theory that Yuji would eventually engrave Sukuna's cursed technique into his body since he's using Cleave. Though, Yuji's application of it seems to be more controlled than what we've seen of Sukuna. Yuji's also progressively reaching Sukuna's level of power with each Black Flash he lands, the revelation of which is pissing Sukuna off since Yuji is doing significant damage to him while he virtually ignores his slashing and cutting attacks.
