Animation is nicer than I anticipated, glad Amazon doesn't seem to be under funding it.

God of Highschool:

Writing a video essay about why the anime adaptation is bad has me going back and reading through the first story arc for research purposes. Pleasingly, that first arc holds up really well. The series, at that point, was good, above average even.

Then I read the most recent chapter of the current story arc and I lose the will to live a little. It's a little impressive how ridiculous and wildly over the top fight scenes can feel so hollow and devoid of meaning or stakes.

I will give the series the tiniest of props on respecting it's own power curve insofar that spoilers:

Satan fights Supreme God Mujin and loses and then the rest of the gods attack him only for Mujin to be like "All of you combined were weaker than Satan anyway, what did you think would happen?" and get obliterated instantly.

They got points there for internal consistency. It wasn't meaningful or fun but it was consistent.

However, by and large, my take is that the current arc is sooo lame and has been for a good long while.

Cool.

Looks like they're hitting all the major point of the first few volumes, and they're keeping the violent depiction of the action scenes.

The animation is also slick, and J.K. Simmons as Nolan just works. Monster- Girl at the end is a nice little touch.
