It's a very interesting series. It's managed to surprise me a lot with how it's constructed and what it's trying to do.

1. Who do you buy your swords from.

Various, over the years. Kriscutlery, Traditionalfilipinoweapons.com, Zhiswords (now out of business)...but my last two have been from Seven Stars Trading Co., aka Scott Rodell. I can't speak about the man personally, but having seen some of his videos, he's a really good example of someone who has studied Chinese sword use and grasps how they work. Learned a lot from just watching the videos, which is something that I don't often do (I'm not talking 'techniques', I'm talking 'fundamentals'). Anyway, his cutting Jian (Hanwei made) is exceptional, if somewhat large. Despite its size, it feels very mobile in my grip, and the darned thing is JUST big enough that I can use it for the hand-and-a-half Xingyi sword form I know (they would call it 'two-handed' Jian...but parts of it are done one-handed, so I'm loathe to use that qualifier).

So I'm purchasing his Oxtail dao, because it's actually shorter than his Practical dao. I like the brushed steel of the Practical better, but...the length of the Oxtail is more appropriate to what I practice, and its grip is just large enough to get two hands on it for some of the stuff I do. Someday I'm going to get the 'Goosequill' dao; I have one similar to that, and I love it, but it's getting old, a bit rattle-y, and how it is put together makes it nigh-impossible to repair.

Sorry, dude. When I went on Facebook more than five years ago, it was for the sole purpose of castigating the maker of a deerhorn knives who never sent me my purchases (after taking my money). Between that and having my teacher disparage his business practices on the couple of forums he frequents, it worked; I eventually got my knives (and they are quite good).

Before that, I hadn't been on in years...again.

Less-than-pleased with the latest Kingdom.

Shin is losing, flat-out. Shin is also badly injured. Shin has a 'fighting for friends and beliefs' moment. Shin then injures the other guy with his next attack, kills him with the following one. If it happened once, I'd be okay with it, but Kingdom is just brimming with 'I won't lose because I refuse to lose' moments. It's starting to get really grating, and takes all of the drama out of the fights (and, let's face it, Kingdom is now 80% fights).
