I think the most recent chapter of Gosu is a solid misstep. Not unsalvageable but still an "Ooff," from me.

Ugh, ugh. One of my least-enjoyed things. Solid misstep is a good way of putting it. Tripping and falling on its face is another possibility.

I kind of liked that spoilers:

Hansa had apparently switched sides on Hebi

end of spoilers and I figured that would either be the window for the good guys to escape, possibly with assistance from the Sage Forest lads, and that kept Hebi strong and was reasonably believable.

If Ryong flattens him in the next couple of chapters, I will be extremely disappointed.

One of my least favorite things in this kind of story is

Hero gets external power-up from [insert magic device]. I mean, the whole genre is basically to me about 'dudes who train really hard', and it's the people like Hebi who 'cheat' and make bargains with demons or use magic stones to become really potent.

So I really detest this kind of thing. Especially when, as you say, it comes out of nowhere. :P

That part was interesting (even coming on the tail-end of 'endless Hebi power-ups allowing him to continue to somehow survive and monster all over the protagonists') and, better yet, somewhat foreshadowed.

I'm already there, but willing to continue because everything up to the last...I dunno, 10 chapters? Has been absolutely excellent. And it's only the last couple of chapters that I've been really kind of bleah about it.

It's a pretty fun series actually and the choreography might not be masterful but it's good enough to be enjoyable for me.

But the Love Triangles and Miguel, Robby, Tory and Sam all fighting each other over that just drags it down a bit.
