There was one book, oh number eight or nine I think, where I swear not a single. Blasted. Thing. Happened except me getting mad at Euganjak (that’s not her name, but there are too many E names and I’m not looking that up). 1000 pages and only like the last 150 actually meant anything.

That’s the one. Book before it ends with an army marching through a Gateway to attack the White Tower. Next book spans three days where nearly nothing happens and the army isn’t addressed at all, as I recall.

Oh my god, that just honked me off to no end. And yeah, I put down that book and just walked away from the series.

Edit: Also these movies always make "hard" or aggressive style martial arts into lower tier than "soft" style lol

I guess by 'soft' in this movie they're going with 'defensive only/redirect aggression' magic BS?

Which is not, actually, what 'soft' and 'hard' mean, classically, in the martial (specifically Chinese) arts, but...Hollywood, I guess.

I mean, Xingyi is a 'soft' style, but it's about as hit-hit-hit-hit-hit as martial arts get. ^_^

On the topic of books, I've recently been rereading one of my favorite Web serials: Heretical Edge.

For those unaware, it's a an action thriller about a girl named Felicity "Flick" Chambers, Who is recruited to join a school called Crossroads Academy. Crossroads teaches it's students to become Heretics, people who slay the monsters who hide amongst humanity, and gain powers with each kill. While there, Flick discovers that her mother, who walked out on her when she was young, was once a Crossroads student.

I heartily recommend it. It's got good action, good mysteries, and the protagonists actually communicate with each other.

The higher end characters are also very interesting from a Rumbles perspective

Jordan was pretty darned good with world-building, mood, plot ideas, characters, consistency, etc. He was lousy at keeping his creation under control, however, and terrible with pacing, which ultimately killed it for me.

Not exactly that, but pretty much. It's just a distinction I'm finding more odd as time goes on I think because it's like the way to get better is just to find the "right" style in these movies. I get the thematic reasons but it's still lol

I saw the prequel trilogy for Star Wars for the first time yesterday (minus Revenge of the Sith but I saw that before I even knew what a star war was) and I was lied to by mass media. These films aren't that bad. They do have some very bad lines and characters but that's not all they are.

...I just had the strangest dream. I was a blind teenage girl investigating a mystery at high school with another girl.

I dreamed I was blind. A teenager. And female.

That's a new one.

Didn't get as deep into the mystery aspect as I'd have liked before waking up, but I know it involved dead rats that made that industrial machine electrical WHUM WHUM WHUM noise.

Honestly, it'd make a great premise for a YA novel. But I'm still trying to figure out what my mind was trying to tell me with this one...

Also yes I checked myself before I woke up and I was petite and perky. Not sure how I feel about that.
