    Generally, this seems to be the average reaction to it.

    It seems the author's concept was, "What if Batman, but we use the degree of removal to replace everybody with my OCs...yet we still call it Batman?"

    Still, the fact that we're discussing this right now speaks loudly enough to the power of brand names and labels, such that they loan clout to boiler-plate ideas that wouldn't stand on the strength of its base concept unless they were presented as on-brand merchandise.

    The story likely would have floundered on its own, and yet here we are. There's your word-of-mouth, DC.
