Question to our martial arts practitioners: The right side has the liver, hence why there's a punch called the liver blow. Does it do less damage to hit the left side than the right?

Left side has large intestine running down it from what I recall of anatomy. That is, technically, less important and less complex than your liver.

The difference is pretty minimal in the realm of conventional real world punches. Your musculature and/or fat would be absorbing most of the impact to protect your organs.

If you got hit by something like a knife or a car on either side where the level of impact or damage is definitely going to reach your innards, then yeah, damage to the large intestine is somewhat preferable to damage to the liver.

Both are really bad though.
