But then again it is authentic "drama" for a lack of a better word than a contrived drama and angst. It is human nature that we will not always agree or see eye to eye on things no matter how much we share in common. Nothing wrong with that. Even when we share so much in common with another person, no two individuals are completely alike (look at the varying personalities and interests of identical twins), this is what makes for interesting storylines between SMWW. Despite the fact that they share so much in common, they still do have their differences, and it is those differences that makes things interesting between them (as stated in the comic).

I am of the opinion that those who keep saying that SM/WW are too similar speak only superficially, and can't see them beyond their powers.

The golden standard for both their FriendSHIP (I think I see what you did there) and how their romantic relationship should be established as far as I am concerned.

I know some just lurk, some have a lot of their plate, some just plain sick of DC...but they are still very loyal to SMWW. But the way DC handled new 52 has done something unfortunate I think...burnt some fans out. Fans who were loyal from post crisis to the new 52. They just got sick and fed up of DC and really don't want to spend anymore on taking a chance that DC might toss them a bone.

A bright spot is the growing new fans on IG and tumblr who show an interest in SMWW and ask for back stories to learn of smww.

Yeah, I don't see most of the old regulars posting anymore. After Rebirth/Reborn, the previous SM/WW thread was almost dead but it's getting gradually better now after the "restart".

The variety of versions of SM and WW (classic, pos COIE, new 52, rebirth and film) impress me! This means that in all their periods people identified with the couple! That's great!

I bet that if it were counted as a Halloween costume, Superman/Clark would be considered more popular during this holiday.

While it's nice to see hundreds of images of couples who have decided to dress up as SM/WW, Instagram has become too chaotic for my taste at the moment. I'll wait when there'll be just some SM/WW art appearing there.

Exactly. Which is what makes a relationship between them feel more authentic. We've seen the growth and development between them throughout the years.


Couldn't agree more with the bolded part. It is part of what makes them so compelling. Because we have been able to witness the various stages as their relationship and observe how their bond grew and deepened.

All of this right here. To me, that's all it ultimately boils down to. When the writer understands what both character brings to each other and said character respects both Superman and Wonder Woman as individuals characters and together it is reflected in how they are written. In this, effort will be made to write the strong and powerful partnership that would naturally exist between these two. It is something that as you accurately stated should be done in a respectful and interesting manner because for these two characters it should be no less than that. It makes for intriguing stories and thought provoking reading if done right.

For me, that is the ultimate SMWW storyline. A build up of their relationship in which they grow from friends with underlying romantic attractions to full blow romance. I guess is why I look to preflashpoint SM/WW so much when it comes to how they should be portrayed in many instances. That bond that was forged is something that was so beautiful and for me what separated their relationship with anyone else. There is true foundation laying and that is important for me if there is to be any buy-in on my part.

It’s fiction, sure, but if DC wants these characters to be relatable and more modernized...make them feel real, especially Superman and Wonder Woman, the relationships/dynamics can’t be stagnant and/or shackled to out dated troupes. They can’t be lazy and have development unseen and all of a sudden it’s supposedly just there. Relationships whether platonic or romantic, takes work.

In Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller, we met Lara, the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman. In the recent Dark Knight III: The Master Race by Brian Azzarello, Frank Miller and Andy Kubert, she was back. And we were introduced to her brother, Jonathan, from the same parents.

Frank Miller mentioned that he was currently working with Brazilian artist and utter artistic genius Rafael Grampa on a Dark Knight III spin-off project, featuring the children of Superman and Wonder Woman.

It will be called The Golden Child.
Look for it in 2019…
