Superman & Wonder Woman Relationship Appreciation 2018

They have earned and deserved it. The dynamic has gained a wide/diverse audience and as you pointed out, without much of the right exposure. That is something in itself that should be acknowledged, respected and celebrated.

It's weird that DC did more to acknowledge SM/WW in the 90s/00s than now, after everything surrounding SM/WW got even bigger than 20 years ago. 🤔

Exactly. We talk a lot about SMWW’s potential and it’s obviously ready to be tapped into. It has been but on surface levels but then shied away from because unjustified reasons. It’s proven that if it’s given the proper chance, without limitations, or shying away, DC/WB will have the audience they are looking for.

Well, we can see the recent animated movies (War/Throne of Atlantis/JLvsTT) and also JL: Action as the first step in that direction. Even if the second step will not be anytime soon. 😥

Shying away from it because maybe at that time it was considered just a tease...more elseworlds. They had a bit more control of how it was perceived and such. Being canon opened up something bigger than expected. So basically no matter how hard they try, can’t put the genie back in the bottle.

They put a road block because they wanted fans to turn around and go backwards.

But the interpretation I get is, Diana must be frustrated, feeling down about something and doesn’t care for anything or anybody at the moment. Kal overheard her probably venting out loud to herself. He got into his feelings thinking she doesn’t care for him either LOL Had to swoop in literally, to get her to talk to him.

And it’s definitely noticeable that big part is missing from them. In some issues it has been expressed they still feel alone or have no one to understand and to talk to. Well yeah...being purposely separated from the person who has always been known to be the one to be there in those times, is a major red flag.

Hmm but...maybe they can’t even be close friends because their friendship is so complexed. It’s an intimate connection. Not specifically romantic but it’s something deeper. That can’t be properly expressed or explored with status quo limitations.

Hmm....that’s not exactly what I was thinking of. I was thinking of the over all movie synergy thing. They are more strangers, interaction is very little but when they do interact it’s so stiff and robotic. The natural dynamic just isn’t there.

One thing to consider about Convergence/Rebirth/Reborn Superman aka "Superdad" is that DC not only rewrote continuity for Supes' kid but kept the focus of the franchise on him for 2 years to establishing the new character. Even if the thing was meant to be temporary, for 2 years Superman's life/stories revolved around fatherhood/family with no room for anything else and we didn't get a sense of what's his life outside of being a father. That shift of focus really hurt (re)building some kind of relationship with Diana among other factors.

Well from the beginning, the rewriting made a mess they’ve tried to sweep under the rug. But the plot holes and contradictions are too big to try to ignore. Cutting something that was developing on its own, going a total different direction to go backwards and sever what was already developed for years and years period, wasn’t thought out very well. Especially when they’ve ended up now written into a very isolated corner.

Those people are hopeless romantic.
