New52 I believe was to do the unexpected. Not only was it testing the readers but the creative teams as well. Yeah, editorial was a mess, but given time and cooperation, that would’ve changed and smoothen out. However, when you have different people purposely not trying to get in sync, it disrupts everything.
Despite all of the controversy and background nonsense, New52 Wonder Woman was still a success. It most definitely helped her character with interest. And like it or not, Superman and Wonder Woman’s relationship was (and still is) a success as well.

SM/WW was sort of successful even before the New52... I mean, it had its fans already, no? 😉

That’s a perfect description: a young heroine, under construction, growing up. That’s what made her such a very “real” character. And Superman just the same, a young hero, under construction.

Many of times Hellacre has said it, they weren’t given things on a platter. They worked and struggled for it. We as readers and fans are supposed to automatically assume, Superman and Wonder Woman are perfect goody-goodies who don’t struggle and have it easy, always smiling etc. No, that’s boring and shallow. As we see this is what also makes Superman and Wonder Woman seem so emotionally (and mentally) fragile. Especially Superman when everything is given so easily, being isolated in this perfect comfort zone. When that’s challenged or taken, he has a breakdown.

As I’ve said on a previous post, they are two people part of 2 or 3 different worlds that don’t completely fit into any of them, yet all aspects makes them who they are as a whole. Two sides of the same coin. They understand and share similar burdens and aspirations. Seen as Gods, but very much, much more “human” with hearts of gold, which makes them the heroes they are.

SM and WW as young heroes "under construction" is still a concept worth exploring. Maybe, not in the main continuity.

One of these days, I should reread the whole run.

Diana wearing sunglasses is fine too. It’s just a way of privacy and peace going out in public.

I like it because it's also a bit different from Clark's disguise.

SM/WW was sort of successful even before the New52... I mean, it had its fans already, no? 😉

Well yes it was! That’s what made the new52 pairing even more of a success, I think.

I believe if it’s ever to become again, though, would like the slow burn angle...not too slow but really want the “best friends falling in love” done right.
Also we have had a beginning and middle...of course we don’t want an “end” but don’t want any out of nowhere abrupt and unjustified cuts to an unnecessary “end”.

Not in main continuity because main seems too restrictive and there seems to be a limited amount of breathing room given.
So maybe what I said above should and will flourish better being not in continuity too. Totally fine with that!

SMWW already goes beyond comics. It’s like it’s automatic to advertise/promote them together with merchandising. Capitalize and celebrate the years of their history together. Two franchises seamlessly able to join together to reach broader diverse audiences .

I still don’t like how Tomasi mishandled SMWW but the one thing he got right was Diana’s monologue in 18



They always build a trusting open and honest friendship from the beginning. There’s no hesitation, no pretending. That is what creates a real relationship and what people in modern times look for.
