[The Darknight Detective]

This is what I'm hoping for. I want the atmosphere from the Burton movies, the drama and detail of the Nolan movies, and the costumed personalities from the 66 movie. Not exactly like them but a nice blend of campy, fun and dramatic.

A mix between Burton and Nolan, fine, but I don't want anything from the '60s comedy show. I loved the program as a kid and still watch it every now and then on H&I, but it wasn't the Batman seen in the comics before or after the show's run. BTW, the producers hated comics, though I can forgive all of this for Julie Newmar, Yvonne Craig, and, my favorite, Joan Collins as the Siren.

I think it depends what you take from the 60's show. Like, Catwoman letting out a sultry pur or a gag, or a Chief O'Hara cameo of all things probably wouldn't be too out-of-place.

I mean, even the most bone-dead serious Riddlers have said "Riddle Me This, Batman," so I think it's all in the execution.

The stuff that Matt Reeves originally said about his Batman movie piqued my interest, because it sounded like he was going to finally break the cookie-cutter for every Batman movie going back to 1966--with a bunch of costumed villains jammed into the story--and instead tell a great detective yarn (like there used to be in DETECTIVE COMIC back in the early 1970s). But the more information that comes out, the more it sounds like his Batman movie is going to be like every other Batman movie.

I am still hoping for almost no villians from the comics, at least not in the main role.

I would kill for just a really solid modern noir film with Batman in it. There's so many real world nightmarish crimes that Batman can go up against.

Even just for that moment of awe where all hope seems lost, and the Batmobile comes roaring out of the shadows.

New Gods- I'm a bit worried about this project. They brought in Tom King which kinda signals that they're going for an intimate character driven approach. I still kind of don't expect it to be greenlighted but if it does they should rename it Barda and Mister Miracle. If they keep the New Gods name fans will be expecting a grand epic retelling of Jack Kirby's New Gods and not a modest budget character movie which they are signaling with the hiring of Tom King.

The Flash- Doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Warner Bros CEO hints that big announcements will be made next year at the San Diego comic con.

The New Gods story is far too epic to be told in one movie. I think it’s great that they plan to focus just on Scott and Barda in the first film. It’s a good way to introduce the mythology with The Pact as the background.

That's true, but it will be a different kind of detective story. The original statements from Reeves had me thinking of the Batman detective stories that didn't feature any costumed criminals and had the Masked Manhunter in the dark streets of Gotham, investigating a ground level mystery. I guess, I let my imagination run away with me and hoped I would get the sort of Batman movie I've always imagined, where there wasn't this distraction of bright, glitzy escapees from a lunatic asylum.

Maybe Reeves never was saying what I thought he was. But giving the audience costumed crooks changes their expectations from the picture. They won't be in the proper frame of mind to follow a yarn that's all about the Batman searching for clues and investigating a complicated plot. They'll be waiting for the next shiney thing to pop up on screen. It's like giving kids a bag full of candies to munch on and then expecting them to settle down and listen to a bedtime story about Henry Huggins.

Having recently watched DuVernay's Netflix series When They See Us, it wouldn't surprise me at all if she and King tries to go for something big and sprawling rather than tightly focus on one or two characters.

Think about something like Azzarello's and Bermejo's Broken City, which features faithful adaptations of Killer Croc, The Penguin, Joker and The Ventriloquist while still being a gritty and grounded detective story.

I kinda hope that the villains and Batman still come off a little more larger-then-life then they did in Joker. I think it would be an interesting contrast with the grounded detective/crime stuff.

I've actually shared these just because they sounded nice rumors. No idea of the reliability of the site. Looking at the past articles, it seems hit and miss.

EDIT: Just checked, rumors debunked pretty fast. More miss than hit then.

That Young Justice/Teen Titans one can easily happen. Nightwing, Batgirl, Supergirl and Blue Beetle all have films in development and you can easily introduce Kaldur and Cassie/Donna in an Aquaman/Wonder Woman sequel.

I’ll believe it when I see it but I really hope these rumors are true. I loved Cavill in the role but if rebooting the franchise gets us a new Superman movie I’m there. I just don’t want them to give up on the character that started it all.

If they’re smart they will lock down James Gunn with a huge contract.
