Barbara Gordon was black, red-headed and was voiced by a Rosario Dawson in the Lego Batman movie.

This movie seems surprisingly prophetic .

It was never stated that the character was black. If she’s voiced by Rosario and has tan skin isn’t it possible that she was Puerto Rican or Cuban (like Dawson herself)?

That's two of Dick Grayson's love interests that have been depicted as dark-skinned redheads.

Note that Dawson herself is of Afro-Latino descent.

I know Gordon was voiced by Hector Elizando in that movie.

It probably helped that they were redheads...

What do you mean by real? She's a lego character.

Here is a side by side comparison of the Lego forms of comic book Barbara and lego batman Barbara.

The lego movie version does have a noticeably darker skin tone. Her tone almost perfectly resembles Dawson actually.

Its true that her race isn't actually stated in the film and she isn't as dark as someone like cyborg, but modern American media tends to ignore other peoples. If this were an Canadian or UK production then she might Indian, but having an African American supporting character is pretty much required for any American production.

When I saw THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE everyone was Brazilian, because I saw it in Brazil, in Portuguese. I've yet to see it in English--so my idea of that movie's Barbara Gordon/Batgirl is completely different.
I read the news today oh boy

There are other rumours also suggesting that Matt Reeves' The Batman may cast a "woman of color" for Selina Kyle.

Personally I hope they don't just limit it to a black or mixed-with-black actress. While I have no problem with that, there are a whole slew of women of different ethnicities I'd love to see take a crack at it.

    - Eiza González (Mexican)
    - Ana de Armas (Cuban-Spanish)
    - Priyanka Chopra (Indian)
    - Sofia Boutella (Algerian-French)
    - Gemma Chan (Chinese)
    - Sonoya Mizuno (Japanese)
    - Vanessa Hudgens (Native American, Filipino, Irish)
    - Gugu Mbatha Raw (South African)
    - Nathalie Emmanuel (Saint Lucian-Dominican)
    - Diane Guerrero (Colombian)
    - Julia Jones (Native American-African American)

...will all be great choices if you ask me. And hasn't Selina been part Cuban in the comics before?

I think Post-Crisis, at some point, her mother was meant to be Hispanic.

Chan we can safely rule out since she's Sersi now. Guerrero is like a DC all-star since she's played Jessica Cruz and Crazy Jane but I'm not sure if she'll make the jump to movies.

I kind of see Hudgens more as Zatanna.
