Wan talking about making sure the audience connects with the characters is very encouraging. I think that's consistently been one of the bigger problems with the past films.

No the problems have always amounted to story, connecting to other films and plot
BvS had a terrible plot that still can't be reconciled
A Mish mash of a Batman vs Superman story, the death of Superman, and the origin of the Trinity.

Most of the solo DC movies don't have this problem because they are only dealing with one main character and have no real stake in leading up to anything.

Aquaman shouldn't have a problem because I doubt a sequel to JL or any other franchise hinge on this movie.

WB already has many movies on their slate that have nothing to do with Aquaman.

Suicide Squad's death was the reshoots and not really taking time to properly introduce any of it's characters apart from Deadshot and Harley. Not a good ensemble movie setup

WW is a prequel no pressure to live up to BvS which is pretty reviled and works as it's own story.

Karl Urban in Dredd. Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven (a non-comic book example), Tom Hardy as Ban except for like one flashback scene (where it actually made sense that he wouldn't have the mask yet). Etc,

Norton was in Kingdom of Heaven? I haven't seen that movie in so long, I don't even remember.

There's been a promo that shows him with the full Ocean Master helmet and the Comic-Con poster had it as well.

I think he'll probably only wear it at the climax.

She's the niece of Dante Basco, Prince Zuko's voice actor from Avatar: The Last Airbender and who played Rufio in The Lost Boys.

Gotta disagree. Bad story is part of it but the weakness of the writing extends to the characters as well. That's why you had so many people who didn't give a **** when this version of Superman "died." He's a character a lot of the audience had zero investment in.
