If Reeves is ok with it and setting it up that way, then fine.

If not, I would prefer they definitely not force it on him (or anyone). Because that's how we get a "Patty Jenkins is stuck with Wonder Woman walking away from humanity before she even started her movie" situation, and potential mixed results in working around it

Exactly. Like, my thing is it looks like it's just meant to be it's own unique trilogy like Nolan's was, with it's own set of rules and takes that doesn't really work well for a shared universe, and the creators seem like they probably intend for it to be standalone like JOKER movie, and then now there seems to be a push that WB/AT&T is gonna force it to reboot the DCEU somehow, and that just seems like it's gonna result in a mixed bag. The Dark Knight trilogy wouldn't have led to a great shared universe, the JOKER would make for a terrible shared universe, and while the movie's not out yet The Batman seems to be going off more into that sort of meant to stand alone universe I think. Like, if DC reboots the DCEU, it should be with movies that are meant to fit with one another I think. And this is from a guy who wants a JOKER sequel where their take on Bruce is all growed up as Batman and fighting Phoenix's old man Joker.

I'm just satisfied I'll be getting a Wonder Woman trilogy, especially one free of any characters outside her wonderverse (or whatever it's called, idk). Justice League Easter eggs, fine, but I don't want anybody asking "well why doesn't she call Superman for help" or something. That's what the MCU felt it needed to do in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Aquaman dodged it (thankfully), but yeah, I don't want or need an explanation for why she won't call other heroes not directly associated with her franchise to help her out.

Same with other movies going forward.

Edit: Now that I think about it, maybe I dont even want Justice League Easter eggs because it will get people asking "where is Superman and Batman?" Especially those who are really desperate to see the Snyderverse restored. But we'll have to see what the Flash movie does I suppose.

I guess Flash's movie is going to be tied up in all of this, huh? Hopefully it's more that a cleanup movie, if everyone is right in predicting that it's flashpoint.

I hope it is. The one is so botched and messed up they should work and creating a smoother Earth 2, with better actors (as much as I like Gal and Arthur, they’re very limited). Just finish out the Aquaman, Wonder Woman Suicide Squad and Shazam trilogies while establishing an Earth Two universe and move on

I'll have to wait to see the movie, but from the trailers I already feel like I can't picture seeing other JL heroes in this version of Batman, which was how I felt with Joker.

Maybe Batman isn't the best hero to start a DC cinematic universe off of.

Batman’s world just doesn’t lend itself very well to a shared universe. He feels more like a Marvel hero, similar to how Thor had trouble in the beginning of the MCU because he felt more like a DC hero (ie uber powerful, flawless, OP).

If the first one is botched that it needs an entire new universe, why not just create one that's intended for that purpose instead of piggybacking one onto what looks like it's meant to be standalone?

Basically this. If they need a new universe to completely replace the old DCEU, they should stop, plan it out ahead of time, and create a movie that looks like it could establish a more colorful shared universe to kick it off. As awesome as this movie looks, it doesn't look like that kind of movie. You can make a great Batman film that sets up one hell of a shared DC universe, but that Batman film would have to look a bit more fantastical than this one, which seems to be trying to one up Nolan on the grit and grounded factor.

I actually think that's easier to avoid in DC. Not ever hero is down the block in Manhattan, and they've got truly unique corners to take care of. Nobody can handle Greek myths and obstacles like Diana, nobody can navigate the grimy riddles of Gotham likle Batman, interplanetary peacekeeping is GL's jurisdiction, etc.

Well, let's not forget that her sequel was built around a villain who has little to do with her verse because they thought Duke of Deception was too similar to Ares. I'm still salty about that.

I think in a way we lucked out that there's so much trouble with Affleck and Cavill behind the scenes or else WB might've put them in WW3 to "help" the box office.

The Batman '66 campiness of B & R killed its chances at the box office more than anything else, IMO.

People also seem to forget that B89 and Returns are very campy themselves. Robin makes things too silly, but Danny DeVito screaming at a bunch of rocket launching penguins and Michelle Pfeiffer putting a bird in her mouth is serious?

Hell, Forever only kicked up the campiness a few notches and it was a cartoon before Dick even showed up on screen!

Batman 89 and returns are different hell for awhile people didn't even want to consider forever and Batman and Robin as true sequels to the burton movies because of how unlike each other they are

I think everybody is getting worked up over a bunch of nothing. We don't know for sure if Matt Reeve's Batman is meant to tie into something greater, we haven't even seen the movie to judge what it might be like and even if it's mean to set up a shared universe, we don't know which characters it's going to reference. We don't even know if the sequels for the movies that do exist in their shared universe (Aquaman, WW, Shazam) are going to cross over if at all either. We should just wait and see until we have more information to go on.
