Abrams and Snyder aren't in remotely comparable situations. Snyder's movies were divisive from the outset, while Abrams, love him or hate him, is a mega producer with a long string of hits behind him. WB paid an absurd amount of money to bring him and Bad Robot into the fold, so the idea they're already turning on him before a single project has been aired or released is a huge stretch.

From THR about the 2 black SM projects:

Collider broke the story that WarnerMedia’s HBO Max and DC are developing a SECOND Black Superman project. This one has Michael B. Jordan producing, possibly starring in, a limited series for the streaming service based on the Val-Zod incarnation of the character.

Jordan tried to develop a Black Superman feature when he and his production company Outlier Society had a first-look deal at Warner Bros. Depending on who you talk to, it fell apart because Jordan wanted too much control over the project or Warner Bros. was shifting away from actors having control as producers, which sounds like different sides of the same coin to us.

Jordan eventually left the Warners tent and the studio later handed the reins to J.J. Abrams, who brought in Ta-Nehisi Coates to work on a take and story.

But here’s what happened next, according to sources: The HBO Max side of the business then approached Jordan and asked him if he’d like to try his project for them. It was either synergy or, at the time, a surprise, depending on who you talk to. No overlap is seen, however, as Jordan’s is considered to be early development and on a different time track.

DC likely figures "Marvel is beating our butt in everything theatrical but 1 thing we can up them in? Diversity" They want to to appear that they are all inclusive.

In fairness, if they are willing to spend the money, there is a certain benefit to just flinging stuff at the wall, see what’s working/popular and crisis select parts together

Black Panther and his 3 Oscars and billion dollar movie say HI.

Inclusive would be a Cyborg movie not a black Clark Kent movie or a Val replacing Superman (if that is the story).

Marvel at least had POC with their own stuff ready to go. DC has found ways to derail POC or not fully go all the way.

Val-Zod? What's next? A TV show focused around Superman and Lois Lane raising two teenage boys in Smallville, Kansas amidst a conspiracy to resurrect the dead Kryptonian race on Earth?

And they can't even beat them at that lol. Marvel's got a bunch of original diverse characters coming to the big screen either as legacies or in the own superhero identities. A black Superman project isn't gonna have as much novelty or interest as WB executives seem to think, let alone 2 black Superman projects. And that's assuming those shows/movies are good along with the rest of the diverse projects they got coming up.

    That is one movie.

DC is planning 2 Superman films with him being black, an afro-latina batgirl, introducing a latina Supergirl who likely will get her own spin off, Static Shock. They brought us a black Black Canary, Suicide Squad with a very diverse cast with 2 of the main characters being black.

And I didnt even put down Marvel. What is in front of the screen will be a lot more memorable to the audience which DC is Likely betting on..

I'd much rather watch a Val-Zod movie than a Cyborg movie.

Honestly impressed he would want to make a Val Zod movie/series over just doing the easy/lazy race changed Clark Kent. I feel like not many would want to do that, but it is cool to see him want to support an actual black character.

WB has really given up on the traditional Superman on film.
He hasn't really soared on film since the 70's. TV is his space.

I mostly agree but I like Calvin Ellis a lot better than Val Zod.

That bit about WB moving away from actors also being producers and fighting with MBJ about creative control is interesting. Think we’ve found out why Cavill hasn’t come back. I’m guessing that’s what he wants and WB won’t give it to him which is why he hasn’t returned.

God, no. Not a Val Zod movie. You just know that it will be Power Girl's first appearance in live action, and it will be as helpless arm candy for him. Even though it was more the other way around in the actual terrible comic book.

I'm just going to say it - I'm infinitely definitely more interested in MBJ's Val Zod project over the Abrams/Coates reboot. This is what they should've gone for in the first place.
