I think Lightning Rider illustrated why it being WWII is so important both thematically and narratively for the team.

The bit about how WWII being America's last "good war" and thus shorthand for how good/heroic the old JSA guys are? Yeah, I don't really believe that illustration is actually a good point or argument.

It really surprises me how much they're leaning into The Suicide Squad versus expanding on...literally any of their other brands, but I guess DC thinks it's more marketable like how they double-down on Batman. Having a creator like Gunn helps.
