So the early reports that Aquaman feels like a phase one Marvel movie were probably right. I personally think that’s a good thing considering how bad the DCEU reputation is at the moment. They need a fun superhero movie that leaves general audiences feeling like they just had a good time at the movies. I think sequels can be deep and thought provoking but they need something just fun and entertaining to get people interested in their product.
I never thought we’d be at a place where Aquaman as a character is getting so much positive buzz and love from the mainstream. Snyder probably cast Momoa as Arthur to make the character “badass” and move him away from the Super Friends stigma. But it’s great that Wan has gone beyond that and realize that Momoa’s natural charisma and sense of humor can take the character to even greater heights.
Having a bad RT score and not being a crowd pleaser isn't the same thing either. Suicide Squad was as mediocre as it gets, but a lot of people liked it, so now Harley Quinn gets another movie with her as the main star. Same reason Venom would get a sequel. To be honest though, however that turns out, casting Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady was just brilliant.

Re-evaluating my ranking, thinking more about the films:
Aquaman
BvS
MoS
WW
The latter three all suffer from 3rd act problems. MoS less so as it's only problem was went on too long. But BvS and WW 3rd acts felt like different films.
Wan's direction is also a lot more distinct than what Patty's was for WW. Plus AM easily the most cohesively written film from the bunch.
"Yes...Mondo Cool"- Vegeta.
Jason Momoa doing a haka at a premier! Pretty sure those are his kids in the crowd too!
So badass!
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Well, after watching "Aquaman", this is my current DCEU ranking:
Batman v Superman > Man of Steel > Aquaman > Wonder Woman > Suicide Squad
I'm still waiting for the REAL Justice League movie to be released, so I can rank it.
