IDK... feels like someone is trying to compensate.
It embraces that he's evil to the point that he's just not even human. You never see his face, and he repeatedly replaces himself with robots and no-one can tell the difference (subtle dehumanization).
Which is why I think he's better in the show than he ever was in the comics, even during the Perez era. You don't know who he is, and you're not even sure what he is. And he's long term damage was phycological and not physical to the Titans.
Creepy stuff.
