Claremont is old and probably just got confused between Cyclops and Cable, so I don't blame him for getting people's hopes/fears up. Anyway, the solicit for The Exterminated makes it clear it's something from the past. It's basically irrelevant.

Will it matter at that point, though? We'll have literally no Cyclops in the MU when it hit the shelves and that's not changing anytime soon. Whenever he's brought back, I'm sure barely anyone will care about whatever CC does in these few pages.

I'm not sure. do you remember classic x-men? It was the past and CC created everything about Jean and Logan that didn't exist until then or at least it was unilateral, and this unfortunately is still active until today, so I'm not so sure if tha don't matter.

Maybe if he write a story about Scott with Maddy, don't do anything wrong and just tell us that Maddy is Scott's true love (which the rest of the story obviously contradicts)

This is reason for concern for Cyclops fans, given Claremont's history. In nearly every series he's written since 2000, he seems to go out of his way to denigrate him or those he cares about. He seems to use every opportunity to punish Cyclops because another writer had him leave Maddie. Never mind the fact that he's the reason Maddie was such a contrived character to begin with. Never mind the inherent problem with having a character just happen to meet a woman who looks like his dead girlfriend. He still uses this as an excuse to hate Cyclops and destroy his character at every turn. He's such a brilliant writer, one who does so much for every other character he writes. Yet he has this one blind spot that just keeps coming up. I worry that it'll never be resolved.
