Default Who do you think are the best Marvel writers from 2001 and onwards?

If I were to try to follow authors again, who do you think are the best from the current century, and what are their best works?

I'll post my faves later, as I'm afraid that if I list them I'll most get recommendations based off of them.

Edit: Oh, and please, tell me what you've liked of the authors work. Just saying that they're an awesome author doesn't really help someone with my type of OCD.

JMS was definitely my favorite writer of the early to mid 2000’s. His Spider-Man run is one of my favorites on the character.

    Currently:
Donny Cates is on fire and I have enjoyed most of his work.
    Al Ewing’s Hulk is phenomenal.
I would also say Nick Spencer. His secret empire was controversial (one could also point to editorial high jacking) but I have loved his work outside of that.

    Favorite Characters:
DC: The Flash (Jay & Wally), Starman- Jack Knight, Stargirl, & Shazam!.
MARVEL: Daredevil, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), & Doctor Strange.

    Current Pulls: Not a thing!

I liked Roger Stern's work on things like Captain America: Forever Allies.

    * Brubaker's Captain America stuff (with the controversial return of Bucky Barnes!) was great, as was The Marvels Project.

    A few others:
    * David Liss on Black Panther

    * Marjorie Liu, Nathan Edmondson, and the Mark Waid/Chris Samnee runs on Black Widow

    (A few more likely to come later . . . )

Ed Brubaker simply wrote THE defining Captain America run.
    Joss Whedon on Astonishing X-Men.
Hickman had a great tenure at Marvel with FF/Avengers and Secret Wars.
Al Ewing is killing it on Immortal Hulk.
    Agree with Spencer.

It had Black Panther operating out of Hell's Kitchen replacing Daredevil. It had some great art for it, too.

    Spencer's plotting? D1

Spencer's dialogue? Oh my lord, the best.

Spencer's jokes? Everyone else should stop trying.

Spencer's characterization and continuity? He's not the scholar, he's the library.

Spencer's ideas? When he gets X-Men, he'll solve global warming

Spencer's hair? Oh, baby. Oh, baby, oh, baby, oh baby.
