Speaking of Tucker Carlson, woooooo. He is unraveling. I think Fox News is at Defcon-Glen Beck with that boy.
Tucker Carlson (and Laura Ingraham) have descended into full out white supremacy.

What's scary is how many people that watch Fox News are willing to simply watch these idiots racism without saying a word.

Or rather they actually watch to affirm and justify their racism.

You can't pretend to be the good guy, voice of civility and decency and defend blatant white supremacists, pedos and pedo enablers because they are on your side.

The same guys that dragged Bill Clinton for months and years over his affairs have to shrug off Trump paying hush money to Porn Stars (and then welshing on paying back his bagman) and act like that makes a lick of sense.
He's ceded the pretense the moral high ground even in his most deluded fantasies.

All these dudes have left is yelling about conspiracies and the deep state.

No doubt, I even acknowledge my part in this to a degree. I've personally moved from comic reader to comic collector (no slabs) so it's much easier for me to walk it like I talk it now. I mean the silver centurion armor is still my favorite and at one time I tried to collect all it's appearances, that suit ended back in 1989 and I'm still holding on.

Most of my dawgs here are lifers it's just that 'our' group have major issues with inclusion that predicates our insulation so we don't bristle nearly as much from certain character growth. I mean it's there right? I'm not a Coates Panther fan in the least but I'm open to grab the first few Shuri books when they drop as I was when his book came out.

You can't expect Comic fans to tolerate that kind of thing without backlash but the movies may have no choice.
I hear what you sayin' but Logan as a movie is an outlier too. It can't be a blueprint because it's rooted in a source material story that was very mature and specific to Logan. Those stories again are few and far between, anybody remember Wolverine The End from the early 2000's, the first 'Old Man Logan'? Logan on a cinematic level also stands alone in that that was the LAST gas for a character that starred in half a dozen movies previously. Only that character with that history could pull that off. No hyperbole but I can't use Logan as a blueprint for a Speedball/Sleepwalker/Night Thrasher movie which goes into your next point and you're right.

The general audience has no character expectations except for what characters have appeared in movies previous. The playing for pathos over say spectacle or humor is so very new. The humor I feel is what will push a good chunk of the narrative of comic book movies going forward, save the sad stuff for the big event movies. Ragnarok is not just my favorite Thor but it's one of my top five favorite Marvel movies of them all and there is just enough 616 Thor in it to satiate me personally. The GOTG wears thin on me but the approach is working so well that's gonig to be a huge part of the Shazam movie over at DC and I can dig that. IF they do do a New Warriors type film (seems like that's steering into the Runaways lane a bit) I'd expect it to lean more on the humor than the pathos that the general audience might not appreciate as much. Especially if you're gonna use Nitro, in any capacity.

We're in uncharted territory in a lot of ways but so long as things are trending upwards it doesn't make too much sense to me to err on the side of cynicism -- most likely because a large part of me wants to believe that comic book movies are here for the duration.
Very true about the bolded. Cynicism is harsh, it's closer to concern but you do agree that we've come so far in this comic movie thing that now- the movies have long since began to influence the books. That never happened before and that's something the general audience isn't aware of. Lol, excuse the curtness of this analogy but all the comic fans and comic character fans are getting real high in this crack den right now off these live-actions. I don't know if there will be much pure dope left for all of us to stay 'up' after about 5 more years. I'm absolutley LOVING the run Black Panther has got. I have a 4 year old that knows nothing but Chadwick Boseman in that suit and his sister Shuri, the science expert in that movie. At my kids daycare, the white kids got Black Panther T-shirts. Sall good, BP 2 is going to be a bigger monster than this one was. I'm not one who ever needed to see a Black Widow movie but Carol I feel was inevitable (and herewith shall be referred to as Superblonde). Superblonde will be big, Superblonde will be huge buuuttt, she'll be Superblonde nevertheless, which is a cloud hanging over the celebration of the trailer for me personally. Critically, all my MCU eggs would be in the Wakandan basket which is not the worst place to be but I also don't want that to be the end all. Plus I won't feed off of that until about 2020 on the fast track. Comic movies may not slow down but the stories they come from are finite like coal. I just would like them to start 'digging in the crates' as a rule rather than an exception is all.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?

How do you feel about the depiction of Minorities in newspaper cartoons? Have there been times when you were offended?
Here in Australia a cartoon drawing of Serena Williams throwing a tantrum has caused a stir worldwide with JK Rowling, Nicki Minaj and others attacking it. (google: Mark Knight Serena Williams cartoon). The problem with it is it depicts her rival Osaka as a small white(?) blonde woman and Serena as an ape-like woman (!). A worldwide backlash erupted and the paper shot back with even lousier cartoons attacking the "PC movement". The artist replied with a "poor me" cartoon featuring, "nanny state experts" (none of them black of course) with Rowling dressed as a wizard (groan). the artist has been absent from the paper lately for some reason...

I have followed this guy for decades and I find him to be a bit of a hack. His conservative dickery first came to my attention in 1992 when he attacked horror films over the UK Bulger case. His cartoon had a boy in the video store horror section staring a shelf with only one tape on it ,"The Bulger case". Cut to fifteen years later, a bunch of boys film themselves abusing a mentally-disabled girl in Werribee hoping to sell it. The cartoon? : a boy in the video store horror section staring a shelf with only one tape on it, "The Werribee video".
'CHEQUE PLEASE!" . What crappy newspaper cartoons have you had problems with? I LOVE the Kelly's cartoons from the Onion website, they're only slighter dumber than the ones in "real" newspapers!

politcal cartoons frequently exaggerate characteristics to the extreme so I honestly didn't get the outrage over the picture of serena.

Drawing a Japanese Haitian as white was a bigger WTF? to me

I always like to use my wife as a "normal casual fan" as a barometer. I'm in too deep to be objective at all lol.

And the stretch of movies from Ragnorak to BP to IW has had her attention 100%. No complaints at all. No boredom. no talks of being "sick of superhero movies"

I sometime think hardcore fans are more sensitive to super hero burnout because we go see the movies 5 times, buy the movies on home video, talk abotu the movies online. see IG posts on movies, watch every single comic book movie just because. So WE are the ones that are into it 100% without letting off the gas. So we feel like "casual fans" will burn out.

But... casual fans are just going to the theater every couple months and maybe catching on Netflix afterwards. They may bring up the movie in a tweet/text/whatever and then move on. Movies feel a lot fresher when you aren't watching the 28x a year

That's exactly what I do. My wife doesn't give a **** about geek culture but she loves the MCU and eats up all the movies.

I think it must be pointed out that a lot of people that watch superhero movies have never, ever read a comic a book.

They aren't inside the culture like us, so they aren't tired of it all. What they react to is bad movies, superheroes or otherwise.

MCU and the Jurassic Park movies are really the only movies she asks me to go see in the theaters.

It is just too expensive for us both to go these days because of babysitter cost lol. So it is rare.

Look at the nose, lips and skin color. That is significantly different.

Chloe Zhao has nabbed the gig to direct Marvel’s next potential franchise, the Jack Kirby-created title The Eternals.

Matthew and Ryan Firpo, whose spec script Ruin topped the 2017 Black List, penned the script for the superhero team adventure.

The project features the super-powered and near-immortal beings known as Eternals and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants that were created by cosmic beings known as Celestials.

Kirby created the title in 1976 during his cosmic hero stage and was influenced by such works as Chariots of the Gods, which explored ancient gods as aliens.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that one aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.

The project also allows Marvel to assemble a diverse cast of various shapes and sizes.

The director search for Eternals narrowed in the last few weeks of summer, with a shortlist consisting of Watchmen pilot helmer Nicole Kassell, Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings), as well as Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra, the duo behind Colombian movie Birds of Passage.
First Asian director to helm a Marvel movie.

Is that IkarisxSersi thing from the comics? I'm more aware of Sersi throwing herself at Black Knight when they were on The Avengers together.

I guess this works in terms of making Sersi a lead role while still giving Ikaris a major role since he was the "face" of the Eternals from what I'm aware. Kinda like how Scott and Barda might be for the New Gods movie.

I'm not sure about the Kirby run, but Sersi had a thing for Makkari in Gaiman's mini-series. I'll be interested to see how they come back since Aaron killed them all.
