They did. Was kind of an open secret. At least if you can believe those Documentary type shows they did on him the last few years. There was also Surviving R Kelly. It was hard to watch.

On all charges, Fed time too. All that money couldn't even buy him a better defense. Lot of enablers too that are gonna skate after having hands in some ghastly **** on his behalf.

I know people compare him to Weinstein but Kells and the racial inequity is closer to Larry Nassar imo. Larger scope of crimes, way more influencial people in covering up and not a lick of talent in his goofy lookin ass body. Btw, nobodys Daddy or Uncle or brother or boyfriend never ran up on Nassar's scrawy ass? Robert had to change the world with music to pull off his crimes.

    The way I remember it:

There were two things that everyone knew about R. Kelly back in the day: He was the dude that sings "Bump and Grind" and he was the dude that married Alliyah when she was like 15.

And it's not like Alliyah was a Tracy Lords, a 16 year old Porn Star who got into the business because she was built like a 20 year old and everyone thought she was 20. Back then, Alliyah LOOKED like the kid she was.

Kelly bought off the parents, who didn't press charges they just got an annulment and everyone else went back to listening to "Bump and Grind" and his other stuff.

Maybe because if Alliyah's folks didn't give a damn about it, why should they?

Then there was his antics in the 90's and you could watch The Boondocks R. Kelly episode and that would tell you all you needed to know about it, as screwed up as that is.

Society finally got fed up with the bastard. The only thing wrong with this verdict is that it should have happened 20 years ago.

Nassar did it right in front of the many parents and just explained it away.

IDK what it is about gynmastics/cheerleading/dance but for some reason... it takes overprotective dads and turns it into dumbasses.

Parents straight up just drop their kids off at camps and practices ran by dudes and never think about it again.

My wife was in the competitive tumbling/cheer stuff in high school and she would tell me stuff and even then I'd be like..."thats... off."

And chapelle put dude on blast in one of hte most popular tv shows ever and still... nothing.

I'd imagine the only reason RK got "caught" is because he ran out of money ?

GQ magazine even did a story on him. Full details (around 2004-5-I might still have that issue somewhere) and painted him as a man that NEEDED help.

However when folks tried to hold him accountable or even not play his music-the ENABLERS defended him.

People knew he was a creep for decades, though, didn't they?
And folks did not care because of what he could bring them.

Go look up who he has written songs for... Nick Cannon (10 years before Mariah Carey), B2K, Marques Houston & almost anyone who attracted young girls.

I wonder how Nick Cannon feels now that is the man that helped on his first album. Since he has 4 daughters now.

    Or Ron Isley.

Kelly can live off his music library.

Even with this conviction-the line starts to the LEFT of those who would still run to him to write songs.

He got caught because folks had enough and once you got Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and others-it was a matter of time.

The bolded seems to be the most likely.

Kelly had run out of money for a long time now and it was some of his female fans that were assisting him.

I suspect if he were still in "money" he might not have been jailed so easily. There would have been a lot of legal nonsense to draw out the case.

Those female fans have been caping for him for the longest time. Some of them are still supporting him. Despite everything coming out into the open.

    Some folks are just wacky.

Seriously, some people actually marry serial killers in prison. Nonsense.

SMDH. I don't know, muthafuckas have been physically rolling up on referees at kids soccer games and public schools events for years now. My baby tells me about some unsettling **** at the hands of some leader/Dr./teacher/whateverthefk, I don't know how that gets explained away. Never that. Over preparing girls for the society they'll come into is not a bad thing to me, quite the opposite. There are always other outlets out there.

Not a Tracy Lords reference lol. I remember when Alliyah got the divorce, for some reason she was here in Indianapolis and they talked to her on the radio and really all she could say was she was no longer married to R. Kelly, no longer married to R. Kelly, and they did kind of press her, this young woman. A lot of people around her failed that girl because once she was apart from Kelly, she continued to flourish and didn't need him, was fuckin sad. Good number of his hits came after that too.

Vega left out the actual VHS bootleg tape (and the subsequent trial) was the reason Boondocks and Chappelle's show jumped on it. Plenty of folks wasn't even with those shows had that tape. Look, in our defense, we had never dealt with anything like that before we didn't want to believe it. People was circulating VHS copies of a guy with an underage girl on some 'you make the call' ****. At the time, the idea that this wasn't him wasn't real strong but maybe? Why? Also maybe this was just some other piece of porn with a dude peeing on a girl if you didn't think it was him. It's a lot. Dude got Mob charges, he ain't ever gettin' out, good riddance.

I can't say I remember exactly what Women's Gymnastics was like in the 70's but I do remember Nadia Comaneci and her Coach Anton Karoli ( might have misspelled either or both of these names). Champion Olympian, Overnight Star and her control freak coach.

I can only assume that at some point Gymnastics became for women in small town America what Football was for dudes.

Then everyone became cool with dropping off thier daughters with any random dude as long as there was a chance that they could turn thier kid into the next Star Olympian Ladies Gymnast.

And the same men who would likely put a bullet in any kid who looked at thier daughters sidewise wouldn't question **** the Gymnastics Coach said or did because all those MFers created a culture where they couldn't be questioned ever as long as your girls won.

Couple that with the fact that the media doesn't pay attention to Gymnastics until the Olympics rolls around and you have control freaks operating under little to no scrutiny.

It probably wasn't until people start failing 'roids tests that any outside body paid any attention to what these people were doing. And it snowballed from there but it was a very...slow...rolling...snowball.

All credit goes to the Ladies Gymnasts kinda as a group realizing that they are a good part of the reason any American even cares about the Summer Olympics anymore (I remember when people cared about who won Gold in Boxing...I am old, lol) and flexing thier power and influence they now know they have to get **** corrected.
