They aren't going to throw that successful idea away to focus on only one.
Plus they're treading new territory with a movie like this. This will be the first animated movie featuring an interracial couple between a black man and a white woman. The fact that it took 2018 for us to reach this says a lot, but still. Sony's breaking new ground here, and it's about time we have that representation.

Really? The first? Maybe the first in theaters, but I can think of at least one interracial couple from a direct to video animated feature: Green Lantern and Hawkgirl in Justice League: Starcrossed.

Saladin Ahmed is sort of carving out a niche with the popular teen heroes. It's sort of weird that he won't be writing Champions also since he's crafting the solos for their "Big Two/World's Finest".
    Pull List:

Marvel Comics: Venom, X-Men, Black Panther, Captain America, Eternals, Warhammer 40000.
    DC Comics: The Last God

That's why I said in Theaters, and we all know how the big screen representation has entirely different rules than it's television counterparts. I mean we've been having cartoons with black males as a lead for a while but it didn't change the importance of Black Panther and what it represent. The movie theater is considered the big time and it's about time we had that showing on screen.

Also Green Lantern and Hawkgirl was the first (and only) interracial couple between a black man and white women in cartoon, as well as the first cartoon kiss between a bm/wf on screen.

Petition calls on Disney to drop 'Hakuna Matata' trademark

An online petition is calling on Disney to relinquish its trademark of the Swahili phrase "Hakuna Matata."

The company trademarked the expression the same year, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The petition, created by Zimbabwean activist Shelton Mpala, has received more than 50,000 signatures.

Mpala told CNN he started the petition "to draw attention to the appropriation of African culture and the importance of protecting our heritage, identity and culture from being exploited for financial gain by third parties."

"This plundered artwork serves to enrich or benefit these museums and corporations and not the creators or people it's derived from," Mpala said.
Disney has not responded to CNN's request for comment.

Liz Lenjo, a Kenyan intellectual property and entertainment lawyer, disagrees with the petition. Lenjo said Disney "has not stolen anything" and the outrage over the trademark is misplaced. The blame should go to social media for "blowing things out of proportion" Lenjo said.

"The use of 'Hakuna Matata' by Disney does not take away the value of the language," Lenjo told CNN. "East Africans or whoever speaks Swahili worldwide are not restricted from using the phrase."

She added: "The conversation on the internet has been blowing up because of a misconception and misunderstanding around intellectual property law, the ethos behind intellectual property law and the various regimes of protection."

Could be the first, but it's not the only one. Secret Saturdays starred that type of couple with their biracial kid.

The Deep Cartoon is a really good one too.

Dwayne McDuffie said on an interview how he discovered he did the first pairing of that type in television cartoons and he didn't even know, but it's good to know it's not the only one for television anymore.
