I used to really be into urban fantasy novels. I read the Dresden files all the way through Skin game, and the first three books of the Iron Druid series, plus a bunch of other stuff. Lost interest after a while though, because it's a genre utterly dominated by Buffy fans who just wanted to write shitty novels about "exotic" looking women who banged werewolves and vampires, and were "complicated". Every single cover for these books follows the same layout. Some brunette or redhead, in leather pants holding a sword with her ass facing the audience. "Book one of the shadow slayer chronicles!" "Book three of the Dark hunter chronicles!" "Book seven of the otherworld warriors chronicles!" "Book ten of the dark-night-shadowy-bad stuff killers of evil stuff bad. things. good."

(They're always chronicles. Although I guess my complaint about the covers is unfair. Sometimes they're dudes with no shirts on, with their heads cropped out of the picture.)

Anyway, those Anita Blake books are especially notable (not least of which because of that article you linked) but because the first four or so were presented as crime procedural fiction with a supernatural twist, but around book six, the author lost her mind and just started writing them as hard porn. It's like what if Olivia Benson from Law and Order SVU gave up on being a detective midway through season five and started f*****g random strangers she met on the street in order to solve her cases? Real jarring. It's never even normal sex either; there's one novel in the series could basically be summarized as: "Anita is locked in a room with four werebeasts for three hundred pages for reasons. Enjoy."

It's still more diverse than the Dresden Files. One black main character in fifteen books and he only appears in four of them.
"A happy ending? So unlikely. We're not having a moment here.

Wrong city, wrong people, all huddling in fear.

No one escapes the slaughterhouse, and that's just where you're at.

(You could've asked Rebecca but then Adam stomped her flat.)

You think you're special cuz you're scrappy? You're deluded, time to go.

Lucy's living on the moon but you're another dead psycho."

Basically Green, Black, Blue and Gold are the most diverse colors. Pink and Yellow seemed to have swapped in recent years ( In the 90's/ early 00's Yellow was more diverse than Pink). Silver, Purple, White and Red are the least diverse colors.

Latinos have never portrayed Silver, White or Purple rangers and are mostly cast as Red.(males) or Yellow (females) rangers. Asians have never portrayed Red or Purple rangers and are most commonly cast as Blue (males) or Pink (females) rangers. Black people have never portrayed Silver, Gold or Purple rangers and are most commonly cast as Blue (males) or Yellow (females) rangers.
Um, when was a white ranger played by a black male?

Also, technically we do have an Asian red ranger. Eric the Quantum Ranger from Time Force.

The lack of an asian red ranger was really an issue during Samurai

especially when you consider Amit Bhaumik's original pitch for Samurai which would have had an asian red ranger and used the characters much better . Bulk was also in the pitch and would have been used much better.

Also he put in a really good shot at Tzachor in the blog post

Eric is a weird situation. he is technically a red ranger and was used as such for forever red, but is more of a sixth ranger. the red ranger specifically refers to the lead ranger

Yeah I missed that one and I'm an avid watcher. Hm.

Looking it up though I came across this:

That was a typo. My bad. Haley is the only Black person to be a White ranger.

As for Eric, he doesn't count, as he's more of a 6th ranger. Plus he's multiracial at that. I only counted the main characters for each color.
Done with DC. Can't handle the constant whiplash! Time to go on a hiatus!

That's a great one. This one was quite on point in terms of the season one casting:

I notice they've mostly been cautious in their casting of the yellow and black rangers, though there seem to be a prevalence of Black blue rangers and Asian pink rangers.

I've not been keeping up with Power Rangers since Lost Galaxy, but I suppose there hasn't been a male Pink Ranger yet? That's a whole different door to be kicked in.

I was always more partial to this crew -- though I might just like animation better than (Saban's) live action.

    Even dolphins gave them props.

This show always reminded me of a Marvel teen book.

As a 6th Ranger, Eric never led a Power Rangers team. But he was on "Forever Red" so he kinda counts in canon ? Sorta?

Pua Magasiva was the Red Ranger for Ninja Storm but I just remembered (as I wrote this) that he's Samoan.

Aw, crap....without even clicking the clip....the theme song just popped in my head.

I'm honestly surprised no one has tried to make a live action movie out of this.

A few adjustments with the cast/powersets may be required, but several demographics are served here.

This came out when I was in 5th grade. To this day Shane 'Clint Eastwood by way of Dirty Harry' Gooseman is still the coolest cartoon character ever. He was so cool I didn't even trip on the fact that HE COULD EFFING DO ANYTHING lol.

Ironically Doc and the brotha from Bionic Six where a unique pair of scientist bros. from the 80s. Quite the counter to the earlier in the decade Roadblock from GI Joe.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?
    You bet yer ass.

Simone Biles with a historical clean sweep.

"Simone Biles wins every gold medal at U.S. Championships"

    https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2018/...championships/

"Even bigger than this is the fact that she won the all around title over the former winner, Morgan Hurd, by 6.55 points (119.850-113.300).

To put that gap into perspective, that same score gap is between 2nd place and 11th place (113.300-106.850)"

Adaptations of nostalgic toons isn't something Hollywood does well most of the time. Kind of like video games.
