One of the sillier complaints I'm seeing on facebook is that they disrespected Monica Rambeau by having Carol as Captain Marvel. The "logic" behind that is Monica used the Captain Marvel name first. I find it amusing when people want to pretend these movies follow comic continuity.

How about the one about the movie being military propaganda despite people stanning Steve Rogers for years since the first Captain America movie.

I had to hear Tom Joyner fumble the read about the origins of Monica Captain Marvel this morning. I shouldn't have to cringe that early on a Friday morning, so hey thanks for nothin' 'Minorities in Comics and Other Media, etc' thread. It's been a week and nobody has spoiled the Captain Marvel appearance in Carol Captain Marvel- even if it was brief which we figured it would be. You know how it goes. I'm gonna end up havin' to pass on Captain Marvel for time reasons but best believe I'm likely to pick it up and see Billy Captain Marvel a couple times for balance. I'm sayin, what did she look like, easter eggs, how hot did Monica's mom look? Holla at me.

They were very... careful? not to have any male fan service in the movie it seemed.

MCU is kinda odd in that regard. outside of Widow (or the stunt doubles) very tight pants, the save most of the fan service for the women lol.

It is obvious from IM2 and Avengers she uses her... gifts? in a way to get the information she needs and get the job done.

The funniest part of the concern trolling is most of the people trying to use Monica to discredit the Captain Marvel movie by saying it's offensive to "whitewash" the character's history are the same people who would've hated the movie ten times harder had it actually been about a black woman. The number of uninformed idiots (I'm assuming Cosmicbooknews.com readers) I keep seeing on Twitter parroting the claim that Monica used to be Captain Marvel and had the name stripped away from her to be given to Danvers is kind of absurdly high. They genuinely don't seem to be aware that Monica has not been called by that name since the early 90s and that it was used by several other characters before Carol, because they're just regurgitating bullshit they've been hearing from the ringleaders of this whack ass "movement."
