Do you guys remember Captain Mahr-Vell's introduction in Warren Ellis' Ultimate Secret from the Gah Lak Tus trilogy? That's the kind of stuff I want to see in a Captain Marvel movie.

Ha yeah I saw that pic. I think they should have gone the spandex route or atleast something more flattering. She's a good looking petite woman it's kinda like they put in a effort to make the costume squared up and baggy in certain places.

It's supposed to look like a flight suit. Those things aren't really designed to show off curves.

I said this before, but I 100% think they did not want their first female lead (sorry Wasp) movie and "feminist" icon to be eye candy in any shape, way, or form. There wasn't even an ounce of sexual tension in the movie.

And it isn't like that was "Bries" thing... she had no problem bouncing around in a tank top in Skull Island.

I dunno. Like I said, my biggest gripes were the non action stuff, which seemed flat. When Brie was fighting she lit up, but when she was on Earth she just seemed bored. So hopefully in the next movie she just gets to fight and do cool stuff because that's when she seemed to be really into the roll.

This whole silly deal where people claim Marvel is pushing social agendas etc now is silly when you really look back at the history of the company you claimed to support. I mean honestly....

    - X-Men : Was about racial issues of the 1960's. The entire dynamic of Charles Xavier and Magneto was about Martin Luthor King Jr/Malcolm X. The whole mutant issue was code for this basically.

    - Captain America returned and was a classic "man out of time" situation. Cap for a awhile adjusted to life in the 1960's/1970's. As the big topics of the day Steve Rogers fought against Nazi's , extreme right wing groups and once defeated Richard Nixon in a storyline.

    - Black Panther fought against the KKK in a storyline . While I'm not a huge BP fan many here could detail more about his battling social issues.

    - Spider-Man himself had issues dedicated to anti-drug awareness and handled topics as death in that title.

    - Iron Man once had a drinking problem that while he managed to handle it before , it took a big toll and nearly lost him everything as we saw.

    - Fantastic Four handled body issues as The Thing was not happy with his appearance and having to come to grips with that as we saw. He dated a blind woman as well in Alicia Masters and I'm sure there are other topics that FF touched.

This is just a few examples. So the whole deal over Marvel's "Agenda" is silly and nonsense. Its nonsense since comics as a whole has handled social issues for years before the latest outrage. I can name DC's as well where Superman once beat up domestic abusers , KKK and more. Or Green Arrow who took Green Lantern on a tour across the country so he can see the effects on society as a whole.

In the end you can do what you wish and all. But the whole agenda deal is silly given the medium we have read for years.

“You can take the boy outta the mom’s basement, but you can’t take the mom’s basement outta the boy!” - LA Knight.

Captain Marvel should have been Top Gun in Space. Her flying around blowing things up while Danger Zone is playing in the background.

Exactly, this is what I was hoping it would be.

Maybe they should have set it in the 1980s so that they could have used Scandal's - "The Warrior" instead of No Doubt's - "Just A Girl".

It's one thing to talk about who you think is more hot or who you think is more athletic or who who's hot and athletic or whatever, but some of this "Brie Larson isn't even attractive" stuff is just some people trying to get their SJW Marvel hate on...

John Byrne is damn near a legend. Fans of comics are not a what have you done for me lately type of venture, quite the opposite. So of course you would follow that in a loose quote by a guy whose last major contribution was only about 50 years ago. May he rest in peace.

I will say this about a certain segmented mindset that can and does occur with Latin and Hispanic culture in America. It's probably why Black and Brown relations on some macro level are not as strong as one might think they should be, not me, I see the other side but maybe to some.

It's like when a NBA team is up by 30 with less than a minute in the game. The winning team runs the clock out in the last seconds and doesn't windmill jam it with zeros on the clock. I don't wanna get lost over struggle gymnastics/Olympics, missing the phrase, even though it applies more than we out of basic sportsmanship, claim it should. The outlier of course being Native Americans who America actually did nearly wipe out. But like in most real athletic endeavors Black Americans would win. We've got skin and blood, time and money and debt in the game. When people come here as first or second generation it's because they left for prosperity... So it could stand to reason maybe they should, to a degree not feel like 'caping' on any level for basic or disenfranchised rights for another group with more time on their lease... That ain't why they're fucking here, to join an alternate struggle. Trump received a whole hell of a lot of Hispanic votes considering the precedent he's set leading up to that and what he continues push. There are other factors too, proximity, self-preservation, living space, it goes on and as an Indiana taxpayer I've seen it in most forms. Some of my 'brown' brothers look at us with a disdain that mirrors the worst from a white man, it is what it is. George Zimmerman is Hispanic. They don't make waves by and large and can go the opposite. It's an American inalienable right to be a prick, blood has been shed over it. None of this is aimed at Lobo here, he's clearly into comic books on some level so I guess we have that in common. It's come up here before, you go further East and African-Americans and Hispanic folks, Latin American folks, people from the DR, PR it's a mix of living and working. I have people everyday I use my broken Spanish with all the time there are some I don't ever do that with, for a host of reasons. El Gato comes all the time and he's to the beat right? Maybe I'm off, prolly only in a PC sense but I doubt it, jus sayin'

For sho. I guess she's cute, she is- for me it's kinda like Ann Hathaway in DKR. I thought she was pretty hot in that and made a dope 'Catwoman' but I also literally don't have any other frame of reference for her. I've never even seen Brie Lawson in another movie, she's for all intents and purposes actually Captain Marvel. My only critique is she does seem on the small side imo but that's Hollywood.

It's dizzying but worth it. I only even knew about say handful to half a dozen of the ones that you would think are likely more widely known.

Speaking personally, I'm more concerned (in as much as I can be concerned) about these characters representing practical fitness. If you're like me and you cut your teeth reading those old Marvel Masterwork collections of 60's comics, you'll notice how extremely ugly superhero characters have become in the last 20 years or so. The guys are as ripped as Mr Olympic level body builders, and the dames look like ridiculous bikini models. It's become more about imposing some degree of photo realism/body dismorphia on the superhero fantasy. "Look at Superman's muscles, fatty! Yeah look at them. Hrrrrm, so poised, so tense, so very very peaked. You'll never look like that! Eat your donuts! Lick the crumbs! You're disgusting."

What's wild is that guys with big muscles are useless in a scrap compared to people with more practical builds. A serious body builder is in a constantly hyper atrophied state; they can run out of breath way more easily than smaller people, and when they get injured, it's waaaaaaay more devastating than for someone with a smaller build. When WWE wrestlers shifted from actual wrestlers to big body builders, the level of ruinous injuries sky-rocketed. I hate kids watching Marvel movies and thinking that Chris Pratt's 10 hours in a gym look is a healthy and sustainable goal for them. It's also nuts that people think the women aren't sexy enough.

On the comics side of things, I much prefer the works of guys like Jeff Smith, Darwyn Cooke, Matt Wagner, and David Aja. People who actually cartoon their characters in the classic sense and have their own powerful sense of style, compared to this trend for photo realistic drips of swear running down their asscracks, y'know.
Except it's not just body builders with this type of physique. For example, one of the prime example of FUNCTIONAL physical practice is actually in wonder woman, Brooke Ence. You only need to look at crossfit to find both men/women who not only look incredibly fit, but have the functional prowess behind it. So the idea that only body builders contain "ripped muscles" is a false narrative. Hell, even body builders run out of breath way easier is a hugely false statement, as the amount of cardio needed during the cutting stage to achieve that peak low body fat count is insane. The only way your description would be accurate would be during the bulking stage, where cardio is limited in order to put on more calories to "beef up." And even then, depending upon the metabolism of the body builder, cardio may be needed.
