this stuff happens so often that it barely even gets a reaction out of me though.

The following week will follow the same script as before:

- progressives call for gun control laws
- minorities go the, "of course its a white dude" route and "if it was a insert ethnic group" route.
- conservatives thoughts and prayers
- NRA says more guns will fix gun issue
- progressives mock NRA and conservatives on twitter
- conservatives mock "libtards" and educate on AR and why good guy with gun ect
- probably some gamers will turn to twtter activism

everyone forgets in two weeks and moves on

Yeah, and the fact that Florida is an open carry state where half the attendees could very well have been armed and this still happened will be ignored.

Well look at who the main folks are doing the shooting.

This is not guys getting back at other gangs like we see in Chiraq. These are guys getting mad over little stuff like losing a game or being rejected by a girl.

Lol, maybe. Amongst white folk pale skin isn't considered attractive and that's the complexion red heads usually have. Though red hair itself is generally considered 'pretty' at least on girls, guys not so much. And there are the various 'gingers have no soul' and 'red headed step child' jokes.

Back in the day, pale skin was considered beautiful and a sign of nobility (because peasants who had to work for a 'living' were out in the sun all day long). See also Snow White.

Of course at some point that changed and now we have tanning beds and spray-on tan, but some of thatmentality still persists on some level in Western culture.

Yes, back in the day. As of last week, when I had to go to a fancy-ish work function, another girl there said she picked out her dress because it was a nice color and it was long so no one would see her 'white legs'. And that pretty the same reasoning I used.

Gingerism is a thing, yes, especially in Great Britain. But racism operates in different ways and using different ways to separate people in Europe than in the USA—the underlying assumptions are very different. Now, red hair was probably not a direct target, but it was more common among the Ashkenazi jews and the remnant Celtic populations. Thus at least in the UK red hair became a marker for Jewish, Irish, or Gaelic ancestry, and all those groups faced severe prejudice. (The reason you don't hear horror stories about pogroms in the UK from the 17th century forward, like you hear about Ukraine or Poland, is that many of the western European countries had deported all their Jews or made their lives horrible in other way in the earlier centuries.)

There are still plenty of prejudice around red hair, even if some of the earlier discrimination has disappeared. The memes around redheads being fiery, sexy, and passionate are likely built on a history of misogyny and low-grade harassment, as well as that they were of low social status and thus safe targets for sexual predation.
