That said, it's an optical portryal not a situationally relateable one. Like, forget the fact that Captain Kirk was out here bangin' aliens back in the 60's. Forget that that's not the kind of portrayal historically a black actor would have historically EVER been put in. Nat King Cole's variety show not even 10 years before that was cancelled because in the South it was socially unaceptable that this uber talented African-American was 'allowed' to present his talent on television for anybody to tune in to see. A single father in a position of leadership raising a son most definitely happened on TV but it meant much, much more because Avery Brooks had the role. Optics, hell Beveryl Crusher was a major story arc as a widow and it didn't seem different at all.
It wasn't just the South. Despite being able to book some of the most popular singers of the day, Cole's show couldn't get sponsors. When he finally decided to pull the plug Cole famously said, "Madison Ave is afraid of the dark."

    Tim Reid from Sister Sister
    William Allen Young (Moesha)
    Robert Townsend (Parent Hood)
James Earl Jones (Under One Roof playing Joe Morton's father & Merlin Santana's foster father.)
Joe Morton played an unknown Essene Atkins father on the same show.
    Glynn Thurman (Different World)
James McDaniel played Jessica Lucas's father on Life as We Know it.
The father from Famous Jett Jackson.

You know what is funny? I can maybe name 10 more and most are hows that are NOT airing anywhere. Most are not on dvd-DESPITE having folks in the cast who have gone on to bigger things.
No love for Charles Dutton on the Roc?

Finn is such a frustrating character. I want to like him so much, but he's been a borderline incompetent oaf who goes through the same arc twice. He had so much potential and it was squandered for comic relief. Why does a child soldier need to be told that war is bad? Why does a black man need a lecture on slavery? Why doesn't Finn have some kind of PTSD? Why does he not seem to have a problem mowing down other stormtroopers? All interesting questions these movies won't answer.

Tonights episode of NWA power was pulled down.

    The reason.

Jim cornette couldn't hold his casual racism and thinks saying bigoted things is still okay

So that's another bridge burnt for Cornette I guess. I figured he would've been done for after he admitted to paying a fan to beat up Vince Russo. Or when he bragged about threatening to kill Vince Russo.

Studio Exec Suggested Julia Roberts Play Harriet Tubman, ‘Harriet’ Screenwriter Says

    https://variety.com/2019/film/news/j...kDEpUOSB9flvi8

According to Howard, a “then-president of a studio sublabel” praised the script and then suggested Roberts play Tubman. “Fortunately, there was a single black person in that studio meeting 25 years ago who told him that Harriet Tubman was a black woman,” Howard wrote in the Times piece. “The president replied, ‘That was so long ago. No one will know that.'”

Wow. So much history of white washing he probably thought he could get away with it.
