4 years yesterday since Philando Castile's murder while his girlfriend and a child were in the car. That 'one' and the poor Church drummer killed changing a tire by some off-duty piece of trash both hit me particularly hard, they still do but it got some much needed and seriously tardy changes to happen. Sad part is it wasn't government leadership to enact the change, that onus was on the deceased's mother to push it.

I feel like the only way this movement works is if there is another black dude murdered on camera that makes people get angry again. Clear as day murder ala Floyd. Not "fight the police, steal taser, shoot while runnin gand get shot in the back" type murder.

    Need another martyr sadly.

I remember Ronald Reagan firing Air Traffic Controllers because they dared to threaten a strike.

And the Air Traffic Controllers never choked anybody to death.

These MFers are refusing to co operate with investigations on an organizational level refusing to
release records when asked and such. And that's after being caught on tape murdering people.

The Police Department was already replaced entirely once in New York's history. It can be done again.

Fire everyone who isn't in Finance ( somebody has to keep track of the funds).

Bring in State Troopers to take up the slack.

    Start over.

Every cop i've met acts like they are above the law.

Even with the face mask stuff, some of my patients are law enforcement.

75% of them go walk in and go, "yall don't need to wear masks, we aren't enforcing it."

That... that isn't your job to decide what is law or not. I mean, wtf?

Fam, Dreamgirls and The Wiz are the extent of my experience with musicals and I haven't sat through The Wiz in 20 years. It is long, I've had to take it in chunks but as a historical representation alone it's good. King George's drop-ins are my favorite but dude that played Thomas Jefferson is hilarious. Even the sappy songs move pretty quick and it's more cursing than you'll see on anything else on Plus.

Between 2008 and 2018, there were 11 lawsuits that named Williams (usually including other officers) alleging police misconduct like excessive force and wrongful arrest, according to CAPstat, a project that tracks NYPD misconduct claims. Williams has been accused four times of anally penetrating a suspect, according to CCRB complaints reviewed by The Intercept, as well as a federal lawsuit reported on by The Appeal. In a 2017 trial, Allen’s attorneys asked Williams if that conduct had earned him the nickname of “assman” in the neighborhood. Williams admitted that people call him “assman,” but disputed the moniker’s origins, The Appeal reported, citing court records. As recently as last year, he was accused in a CCRB complaint of using a chokehold during an arrest; that practice has been under intense scrutiny in New York since the 2014 killing of Eric Garner, yet it was not until last month that Cuomo signed a bill banning it.

But even if — a big if — de Blasio and Cuomo’s reforms get the most abusive officers fired, it’s not clear how they’d change the larger culture that enabled the abuses in the first place. In the complaints against him, it appears that Williams never acted alone, as other officers are also named. His partners and other officers on the scene have been accused of engaging in abuses like restricting a suspectÂ’s breathing
, as laid out in a 2019 CCRB complaint that was never resolved because the complainant did not cooperate.

Indeed. One scenario that I thought about is that- IF, the 50 biggest police departments purged a couple dozen of the worst of the worst, the real shitbags, you'd just be putting these animals on the street and they are not trained to do anything else other than give orders with a gun on their hip. Maybe a couple of them take themselves out, maybe some of them get locked up but that's going to have to create victims in order for that to happen whether it's a spouse or a neighbor or just some road rage incident on a citizen. Problem is when you start cleaning house and unpacking ****, you're always left with way more trash than you thought you would and then you have to find a place to dispose of it. That's gotta happen though, even if it's symbolic. What it boils down to is WE'RE ALL PAYING TAX DOLLARS FOR THIS, and that's sick as fk.

Before Covid shut everything down, I did see the Anastasia musical when it came to town. It took a different take than the movie, a little more grounded, but I liked it. I listen to a lot of progressive rock and classical music, so I'm used to lenghty entertainment with a lot of transitions (2112 is 20 minutes long, Xanadu is 11 minutes, and Dream Theater made a 2 hour concept album). I'm largely indifferent to hamilton though, same way I feel about Harry Potter.

I think that Demilitarization and busting up Police Unions would do a lot of good. Police get away with a lot of things because the unions protect them, they're also the only unions people at large seem to be okay with, mention any other kind of labor union and people shout "Rahh, socialism!" Ever since 9/11 cops have been getting more and more military grade equipment and weapons that they largely do not need.

Might sound all "In my day" here but, the challenge going forward will be for young people to understand that part. Roughly 10 years from Rosa Parks to Civil Rights and this is about upending the how the systems that were put up back then have been rigged all along.

This is going to take awhile.

Especially if you got bold and cocky folks looking to get into with a cop for the heck of it.

    I can top that.....

Schools that had low test scores saw ENTIRE staff removed from the principal to the janitor. We had it happen a few times.

Florida, California, Texas & Rhode Island have done it and I think one did the ENTIRE school district.

If they can do that-they can hose clean a police department.

They are all about attention and getting book, movie and other deals. Like Shaun King and others who are making money off of dead black males.

Nevertheless, I am incredibly impressed and over the moon that Texas is leading the way and is responsible for this incredible milestone. Here is the first-of-its-kind statewide Texas African American studies course:

113.51. Ethnic Studies: African American Studies (One Credit).
    https://www.dallasnews.com/news/poli...-across-texas/

AUSTIN -- The State Board of Education has given final approval to an elective African American studies course, opening the door for high schools across the state to begin offering it as soon as next fall.

In a unanimous vote via teleconference, the board approved the course standards on Friday, making it Texas’ second statewide ethnic studies course. The first, focusing on Mexican American studies, gained statewide approval in 2018 after four years of controversy over its creation, textbook material and naming.

But the African American studies course has garnered widespread support from the board and the public since it was proposed last fall.

“April 17th is going to be a historic day,” board member Ruben Cortez of Brownsville said before the final vote. “We as a board have come a long way.”

The course is modeled after a course taught in Dallas ISD for the first time this academic year. Aicha Davis, a freshman board member representing Dallas, asked the board to make the course a statewide option last September.

“This has just been an amazing journey,” Davis said Friday, tearing up. “This course exceeded anything I ever thought it would. It’s something I wish I could have taken when I was young.”

For Jamila Thomas, who worked with Davis on developing the course as the former director of Dallas ISD’s Racial Equity Office, the Friday vote was “a dream come true.”

Thomas said this in-depth look at African American studies will help students of all races think critically and better understand issues in our society today, including why the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a disproportionate number of deaths among black Americans.

“These things can be traced far back to help you get an understanding of why COVID-19 has really exposed, if you will, the inequity that exists in so many different communities,” she said.

Davis said she hopes Texas’ standards will help other states adopt similar courses, and she is already working with Grand Prairie ISD to develop a Native American studies course that could eventually be offered across the state.

uring a recent interview with Forbes, West laid out some of his plans for a possible four years as President, and explained that he's using Wakanda - the fictional home nation of T'Challa in Black Panther - as a basis for how he would run things in the good 'ol US of A.

"A lot of Africans do not like the movie [Black Panther] and representation of themselves in...Wakanda. But I’m gonna use the framework of Wakanda right now because it’s the best explanation of what our design group is going to feel like in the White House," he explained.

"That is a positive idea: you got Kanye West, one of the most powerful humans - I’m not saying the most because you got a lot of alien level superpowers and it’s only collectively that we can set it free. Let’s get back to Wakanda...like in the movie in Wakanda when the king went to visit that lead scientist to have the shoes wrap around her shoes. Just the amount of innovation that can happen, the amount of innovation in medicine - like big pharma - we are going to work, innovate, together."

What exactly is Stephen Jackson even doing defending all this nonsense??

The go to defense for every idiot that talks crap nowadays is "they don't want me to say what I'm saying". Note these guys can't even define who "they" is.
