It is exactly like that for cheer/tumbling/gynamistics.

From basically 5 years old until the kid breaks or matures lol.

And there are TONS of "1 on 1" tumbling lessons where parents just drop the kid off and bounce.

So there are probably a whole bunch of Larry Nassars preying on young kids who haven't been exposed yet?

To be fair, a lot of the teachers are women or even kids or even obviously gay dudes

but there were enough college age or older dudes around where even when I was 17 I thought it was weird.

That wide spread no, because that was a doctor. He is going ot see way more people than any coach or tutor. He can also explain away a lot more things. Plus... that dude was PROTECTED like hell by lots of people.

What happens at the high school level at least, is that they get groomed more that anything. Or "college kids dates high school chick" type stuff.

And the same men who would likely put a bullet in any kid who looked at thier daughters sidewise wouldn't question shit the Gymnastics Coach said or did because all those MFers created a culture where they couldn't be questioned ever as long as your girls won.

Couple that with the fact that the media doesn't pay attention to Gymnastics until the Olympics rolls around and you have control freaks operating under little to no scrutiny.

It probably wasn't until people start failing 'roids tests that any outside body paid any attention to what these people were doing. And it snowballed from there but it was a very...slow...rolling...snowball.

All credit goes to the Ladies Gymnasts kinda as a group realizing that they are a good part of the reason any American even cares about the Summer Olympics anymore (I remember when people cared about who won Gold in Boxing...I am old, lol) and flexing thier power and influence they now know they have to get shit corrected.
Because that's always been about controlling women. Never about actually protecting them. Guys who say "my daughter can't date" but encourage their sons to do so forget that all those rapey guys are someone else's sons. Yet do any of these dads tell their sons to behave?

Some of the stuff I'm reading here is scary.

I can see why some parents are over protective of their daughters.

I have a young daughter too and I have a good mind of not allowing her do some stuff later.

IDK what it is about gynmastics/cheerleading/dance but for some reason... it takes overprotective dads and turns it into dumbasses.

Parents straight up just drop their kids off at camps and practices ran by dudes and never think about it again.

My wife was in the competitive tumbling/cheer stuff in high school and she would tell me stuff and even then I'd be like..."thats... off."

And chapelle put dude on blast in one of hte most popular tv shows ever and still... nothing.

I'd imagine the only reason RK got "caught" is because he ran out of money ?
I hate to admit it, but I think it's because of the Surviving R Kelly doc. That movie came out and then the Feds decided to get serious about prosecuting him ( using charges they usually bring against mobsters). And now a couple other states are bringing charges against Kelly as well. But had that movie not come out and people who aren't star-struck seen it, R would still be operating his sex cult.

The real scary thing is that for sex crimes... the vast vast vast vast vast vast vast majority of the perpetrators are people you know. It isn't stranger danger, it is peopel you trust.

Some do and some don't. However it's hard to tell your son something when society wants to cherry pick.

What do we keep hearing "protect our women".

No one says protect our BOYS.

You would be amazed at what is acceptable for our black boys to do that girls get yelled at for. No girl could have her ADULT boyfriend show up to school with their BABY and not get looked at funny. Funny how many boys I saw do that with women old enough to remember when remember when Levar Burton was Kunta before he was Laforge on Star Trek. And they have a KID.

Remember Lifetime's black version of Dance Moms-Bring It?? Homegirl was a former STRIPPER. Who knows WHAT or WHO she might have attracted around those girls.

Not a Tracy Lords reference lol. I remember when Alliyah got the divorce, for some reason she was here in Indianapolis and they talked to her on the radio and really all she could say was she was no longer married to R. Kelly, no longer married to R. Kelly, and they did kind of press her, this young woman. A lot of people around her failed that girl because once she was apart from Kelly, she continued to flourish and didn't need him, was fuckin sad. Good number of his hits came after that too.

Vega left out the actual VHS bootleg tape (and the subsequent trial) was the reason Boondocks and Chappelle's show jumped on it. Plenty of folks wasn't even with those shows had that tape. Look, in our defense, we had never dealt with anything like that before we didn't want to believe it. People was circulating VHS copies of a guy with an underage girl on some 'you make the call' shit. At the time, the idea that this wasn't him wasn't real strong but maybe? Why? Also maybe this was just some other piece of porn with a dude peeing on a girl if you didn't think it was him. It's a lot. Dude got Mob charges, he ain't ever gettin' out, good riddance.
Rumor has it Alliyah’s moms was in a sexual rship with R aswell & that Alliyah's folks more/less gave/sold her to R for more of her publishing.. I bring that up to say while it’s nice I guess R was found guilty ( not really for what he’s really guilty of the i.e. the pedo ish).. but let’s not forget who really needs to be there along with him the parents the knowing face there daughters over knowing what he was going to do them in hope for frame/riches/superstardom. When they are under a jail aswell then I’ll see something worth celebrating..

I agree about the boys part.

It’s actually funny how many guys have been sexually assaulted before especially from older females. It’s not at all uncommon but we just tend to “walk it off”.

I narrated one of these incidents to a female colleague of mine and her response was “dude, you ain’t sharp”. Basically, society has told us as men to NOT say anything about being sexually assaulted. I fully understand that sexual assault is much more common with women (again no jokes, approximately 99% of women I know have been sexually assaulted in one form or the other) but it can also be very humiliating for guys to get assaulted.

Guys I hope y'all are supporting minority lead superheeo comics releasing from Marvel and DC

Icon and Rocket, Static, Shang-Chi, Green Lanterns are all pretty good.

I didn't like #1 of the new Hardware, it was horrible... I will give it 2 more issues to win me over but right now I am at the cusp of dropping it.

Some non-Marvel/ DC titles..... White, Excellence, Eve, Deep Beyond, Money Shot, The Good Asian, Black Hammer, Black Cotton.

Please add more recommendations not mentioned.

    Seven Secrets
Two Moons (one of the few Native American lead books)
S Factor (was a single book but will be a trade in December)
Bankshot (the trade is suppose to have the drawn version of the last issue that never got released)
Something is Killing the Children spinoff-whose name I just forgot
Goldie Vance (was slated for a movie from Fox by Rashida Jones and Kerry Washington) still in trades or novel form
Backstagers-LGBTQA+ book with 2 POC leads now in trade and novel form
Check Please-not a POC led book but the creator is a black woman from Houston and this is one of the quickest funded book in Kickstarter history.
    Bitter Root
Farmhands (when it comes back and is half way down in it's set run)
    KickAzz
    Abbott 1973 (Miles Morales's writer)
    Bone Parish (Cullen Bunn)
    Shadowman (returning in 2022)
    Cash & Carrie
    Cult Creature Features
    Relay
    Curse
    Dead Letters
    EXO
Fence (sort of) Does have a black lead not sure about the rest of the cast.
    Fuse (3 trades)
    Going to the Chapel
    Killadephia
    Savage Dragon
    Spawn
Mall (not Scout's The Mall-although that one has a black female co-lead)
Livewire (a better showing of Vita's writing than how they did Black Panther in the X-books)
Rivers of London now on 7th trade about a black guy in the UK

I kinda got disillusioned by Bryan Edward Hill due to his overall mismanagement of Duke Thomas/The Signal during his Detective Comics story and Outsiders run, even if both are responsible for keeping Duke/The Signal in the comic-buyer public consciousness when the character might have otherwise been in limbo.

I remember being pretty hyped for Hill, too. Hill ended up treating Black Lightning superbly, even letting him gain some serious feats and elevating him to showcase what a character like Jefferson Pierce with the powers Jefferson wields could be. Katana was also treated extremely well. But he dropped the ball far too often when it came to Duke, to the point where it became obvious he did not have a handle on who the character is and was. Hill did that writer thing where he treated Duke like he was first-comic-new, when Duke wasn't. And Hill also kind of strung Duke's fans along on social media, more than once making tactically made comments to keep them coming back that he never delivered on. The most egregious one being the day before the book's cancellation was publicly announced, where he made another promise to explore Duke more in the limelight during a "Season 2", even though he had to know no such thing was coming. Guy was playing the PR game when it came to Duke.

So yeah. That 2 year experience rather soured me on Hill as a writer in general.
