If I EVER pay Sears off it won't be too soon.

Hard to use a card when you have ZERO stores in your STATE and they ship NOTHING.

I can't order from them for anything.

And they have the NERVE to increase my credit... A card I have not used in now 4 years.

Macys wants me back so bad....

People hear "generational wealth" and think like the Walton's or Trumps and **** but really, it can be as simple as being able to ask a parent to pay an unexpected cable bill without going into debt. Once you get in that debt cycle, it is HARD to claw your way out, especially if it is credit cards.
Yea generational 'wealth' isn't really a description of how it's routinely used. A major generational asset is a better description. My grandma used to beat us over the head with save, save, save. That's how most of our folks obtained things back in the day... lol cable bill. That **** is real talk but of course it goes past that, hell, the rehab bill for the methadone clinic, cash bail, a car, a gambling debt all kinds of vice **** that entraps other people and saddles they and their kids asses.

Fam, me and my brother in laws was just talking about this over Thanksgiving. Financial literacy in the broadest sense is something not just Black folks are ignorant of, even though it's tougher on them. I started abusing my credit in the Bill Clinton years. I didn't even know what a credit score fkn was until Bush II was in office and it took me to the end of his second go round to get out of the **** from the Clinton years, up to and including a garnishment. By the time Obama came around I didn't look to get **** I didn't pay for out right. I didn't figure it all out until Trump's goofy ass got in. Needless to say I'm on my littles now about what money really is.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?

Tuh, relax. My earliest gaff was a fuckin' J.R. Rider jersey from J.C. Penny's. That muthafather was damn near out the league and I was still paying on that **** like a sucker. That one slight bout put me off of jersey's AND department store cards in one transaction.

One of the good things about IG these days is that there are and more black folks telling people how to index/target date funds, how to build wealth, ect. And it is targeted at other black folk.

There needs to be more of that. Real, normal "wealth." The only example black kids/young adults get of wealth are rappers and athletes spending all their money on **** and going broke 5 years after it's over.

You're right, but the problem is hardly one isolated to rappers and athletes. Consider the former president; gaudy gold crap everywhere, bankrupting casinos, yet somehow viewed as this great example of success and something to be admired/aspired towards ... enough to win him the most powerful office in the world.

Nah, wasting money on dumb stuff rather than investing wisely in the future is hardly something unique to black people. That's really the general society's whole concept of what it means to be rich -- that you can afford to spend money like it doesn't matter. Eating gold flake in your ice cream or whatever. It's dumb, but it's -- well, part of American culture, at least. Not even just America though, I don't think.

Saving and planning makes a lot more sense, definitely ... but, if more people really operated that way, the world probably wouldn't be on the verge of environmental collapse, for one. Lack of foresight and planning in exchange for immediate gain seems to be the way of the world, really.

I am not at all defending it, just saying -- let's not act as if black folk are the only ones.

Oh most people are trash with money.

The difference with black folks is, IMO, there aren't a many examples of "good"

There's folks being lousy with money, and there is dealing off of the bottom of the deck.

Think about credit card companies soliciting on college campuses.

Even with the very small changes in place to try to look out for students?

There should still be a mandatory class on the reality of your relationship with a credit card company during your first year of high school.

There are many high schools that have classes on budget management and credit cards. Unfortunately, most of them are electives, not mandatory.

Eh, HS kids aren't ever going to pay attention to that stuff anyway.

A former NFL player who killed 6 and took his own life had 'unusually severe' stage 2 CTE, expert says
By Tina Burnside, Delia Gallagher, Wesley Bruer and Jason Hanna, CNN

    http://https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/1...cte/index.html

At this point you might as well say that the NFL is literally killing its players slowly and everyone seems to want it swept under the rug.

God forbid if they had to actually change how the game is played.

Yeah, I don't blame you. I went to school with a guy who had died from CTE. That **** is no joke. He lived next door to me and was always blasting Aaron Carter and Ashanti.

Damn, that's a bit harsh on Carter and Ashanti

Anyway, will the NFL do anything about this? I mean, if people are literally getting killed, something has to change.
