That's the main reason Twitter takes up so much space when it comes to social media conversations. Most people are not on twitter. There are more people on snapchat at any given time than twitter, hell more people are on facebook than twitter.

Since someone had interest inthe Disney thing down here

Disney finally spoke up and reminded Desantis/State of FL that they can't dissolve the district without paying off its Debt to the district first...

of about 1 BILLION dollars lol.

This was nothing but bluster and base riling. And it is working. I mod r/marvel and the increase in people i've banned for "disney is grooming" comments are skyrocketed from "zero" to at least a few a every day since this started

Yeah, I actually read this. DeSantis is saying that they are going to find a way to make Disney pay for the debts. Disney on the other hand is completely unmoved and is just going about business as usual.

All this is so stupid, I don't really understand why the GOP in Florida is twisting themselves into all sort of knots about this. It all looks so ridiculous and like I said before its the kind of pettiness that we see in less developed countries.

Because a good percentage of their base LOVES this stuff and the ones that don't love it just shrug and move on.

That is one thing about gop voters... they compartmentalize really really really really well. They want what they want out of the party (guns, abortion, taxes, blocking progressive policies, lgbt stuff, minority stuff, bullies) and ignore the rest completely and just shrug it off.

The GOP are so mad about Obama being elected. How day a black man get elected president. Man now black people think they are equal. So now they have to make sure something like that does not happen again. And it is not just about punishing black people. They have to go after everyone who counts themself as a liberal. To punish them for voting a black man president and for voting for a man who has (Gasp) a female black woman as Vice President!

But of course as much as the GOP hate the fact Obama was president they still use him to beat the "Hey we had one of them as President. We are not a racist country any more."

We also have a guy running for Senate here in Ohio. One of the big talking points in his ad. "We are not the racists. BLM are the racists." Man this country.

The fact that diversity and equal rights is thought of by so many as a bad thing. And a person can seriously run on a platform that Diversity is bad, equal rights is unacceptable.

I’ve been saying it and repeating it that the American Right and the extremists they are so afraid of in the Middle East have the same views. I also mentioned just how damaging Trump’s Presidency was because some folks were still trying to “two sides” the issue. It’s obvious that my assessment back then was not hyperbole. The US has changed and the forces of regression have gained power thanks to Trump.

The stakes are pretty clear now, as a racial minority or member of the LGBTIQ community or female, if you want to maintain your basic rights in the US, DO NOT VOTE GOP. Any minority that thinks the current Supreme Court won’t strip away their rights is deceiving themselves. Clarence Thomas is married to a dangerous right-wing extremist and the other Trump appointed judges are voting along ideological lines which is deeply, deeply troubling. All this anti-CRT talk is coded language for anti-civil rights and with the GOP in power, it’s not going to stop there.

I was arguing with a couple of folks (mostly people in my community) last year and I explained to them that they’ve taken their rights for granted. The GOP has shifted dangerously to the right and for the first time they’ve successfully mainstreamed their extremism which is bad news for anyone that’s not a straight white man. The only way to combat this is to vote out against wherever and however possible. The GOPs final destination is a tyranny of a Christian white male coalition with their women being docile and every other minority stripped of their rights and watching as they get trampled over. When people ask why black people constantly vote Democrat, they’ve just seen the answer.

As an aside, that’s why stuff like comicsgate even exists. Myself (and Redjack) made the argument a while back that comics have always been progressive but society at large has changed. Between the anti-CRT movement, book banning and now the overturning of Roe v Wade, it’s obvious once again that things are taking a dangerous turn in the US.

I mean, Roe v Wade is only a 50 year old decision. The Civil Rights Act was only 1964. That can seem like a long time, but in terms of lifespans/generations, it really isn't. I was born in 73, and I have siblings up to 12 years older; so you have people in their 50s and 60s who are the first generation that grew up with these battles having been "settled", but the previous generation are not all gone and some are in government, and even the aging Gen Xers were raised by the older generations for whom these were new concepts.

I just mean that the progress that middle aged and younger people grew up kind of taking for granted was not something settled into our society by tradition and history or any of that. Again, in terms of lifespans, it's all something that just happened like a generation or two back, so ... it sucks, but really, we kind of should not be surprised that this stuff is not all history, yet. There are still people alive who remember life before all this "equality" nonsense, and unfortunately some of them remember it fondly and have consistently sold it to their spawn as The Way Things Should Be.

You know, it's an ugliness, but it's not new. Same for labor rights. Collective complacency about all of it can be dangerous -- but I'd hope, any battle won once can be won again, if need be. Though yeah, would be great if we didn't have to roll too far back, before we collectively say Enough.

If one looks at the reality of Obama vs the myth of Obama, one sees two completely different people.

Reality: Ran as a populist, governed as a centrist, like Bill Clinton, to this day retains a lot of popularity in the eyes of white liberals everywhere, those same liberals are not interested in his podcasts however, he had one with Springsteen, it was really bad. Michelle's podcast didn't gain a lot of traction either.

Myth: EVIL BLACK MUSLIM SOCIALIST WHO WILL PLUNGE THE COUNTRY INTO THE DARKNESS, AS DARK AS HIS WIFE AND HER GIANT ARMS, HE'S THE ANTICHRIST, THE SECOND COMING OF MALCOLM X....UM TERRORIST FIST BUMPS!!!1!11111

Obama is as capitalistic as any other politician. I think striking down Roe is a bad idea, it should have been codified into law a long time ago.

There should have been an explicit law around reproductive rights.

Stuff like Civil Rights are codified into law (by the Civil Rights bill) and slavery has been abolished by constitutional amendment.

However, LGBTIQ rights and reproductive rights have never been codified into law at the national level and no constitutional amendment explicitly covers them. The lawmakers should have made laws explicitly to cover all these issues.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that even if there are existing laws the Supreme Court could substantially weaken them given the current make up of the court. We already saw this court significantly weaken the Voting Rights act which is basically allowing some states pass all manner of laws restricting voting.

This is one of those times I'm kind of happy we don't have superpowers in real life.

On a serious note, attacking Chappelle was unacceptable.

*Preliminary Thoughts on Green Lantern: Beware my power trailer*

It's disappointing how the architecture skillet of John Stewart is being ignored.

John Stewart is both a military marine AND an architect.... His architectural skills influence his Green Lantern constructs but look at the rubbish constructs that this animated movie is giving him?!? Urrgh!!!

And being a marine/ military veteran provide more than just fighting skills but also knowledge on organisational structure with a focus on efficiency and results regarding training, deployment, battle/ war strategy, etc.

Green Lantern John Stewart is NOT one dimensional .....being an architect makes him a builder and being a marine/ military makes him a protectors (and/ perhaps even a destroyer)... BOTH of these aspects heavily influence what and who he is as a Green Lantern whereby he understands fully the responsibility of being part of an inter-galactic police force dedicated to preserving/ saving lives, building trust and support across different species, etc which certain.

Another brilliant angle of John Stewart is that sometimes he struggles between the 2 aspects of himself where his builder/ architect side comes into conflict with his destroyer/ military side.

It's both these aspects that made him noticed directly by the Guardians later making him LEADER of the Green Lantern Corps and .... recently....ascended becoming a literal cosmic being.

All these are superb nuances of John Stewart which we should be seeing in this animated movie

*I hope this animated movie does well enough for it to get a sequel or animated series in the HOPE that BOTH aspects of John Stewart are exhibited and explored.* Or the trailer is saving his architectural skills for those who watch this animated movie.....but I doubt it.
