That's a critique that I've heard some people make about NXT for awhile. The Takeover's are usually really good, but the week to week show and the builds to the TK's can be, eh, for them.
Hopefully NXT works on that moving forward.

That's very true. THough it's somewhat of an unfair comparrison since this was literally AEWs first show.
But outside of the in-ring matches, I think you can definately argue that AEW was the more well rounded product. It had more star power, and it belt "bigger."
But I think NXT is sort of being put in a position where they can't lose because they can't win. It's a developmental, so obviously it won't have the biggest stars or run in the biggest arenas. It's Vince throwing his C show (and I know plenty of people online would dispute that, but it is what it is) against the competition. If NXT even holds it's own, it won't come off looking bad at all in comparrison.
More than anything I think NXT just needs to prove that it's in-ring product is at least as good if not better, and they can walk around with their heads held high in the Wednesday night wars.
NXT's biggest challenge isn't AEW, it's Vince sticking his fingers in the pie if they get 'too big'.
In character interview Bray did for good day
I think that's actually one of the advantages of NXT that no other wrestling program really has. The talent always fluxuates because the top stars inevitably end up on the main roster, so the show never really gets stale. You won't get the same events now that you did 2 years ago and 2 years from now.
It's a double edged sword in that it's harder to maintain star power. But in the long run you'll always get new fresh feuds. It's never the same show year after year after year. And that maybe puts a little bit less pressure on their booking having to be super creative. You can use fairly basic wrestling storytelling when you're not needing to have the same 2 guys wrestle for the millionth time.
Apparently there will be a 30 mniute Pre-show on fox before Smackdown
So just got done with NXT. I found it to be the far superior show. But it's kind of like comparing ECW and WCW in their heyday. Not saying that Dynamite was bad, because it wasn't. AEW was a solid beginning, a MJF promo, and a nice beatdown of the Elite.
That Riddle and Cole match was magic.
Balor return was unreal.
Bazzler showed why she is one of the best heel in the biz.
Shane Thorne was a pleasant surprise.
Dream was over.
Street Profits and Undisputed just brought out the best in each other.
Braun Strowman looks surprisingly good in a Suit
Looks like we're starting the the Horsewoman tag match.
And only 2 people on the announce team at kick off. Interesting
Okay, so looks like we're actually in promo territory.
Anyway, having Corbin and the Rock on stage at once seems like it should be like mixing matter and anti-matter
Roman and Rowan will be having a lumberjack match later tonight.
But the Horswoman Tag will be the first match of the night
