MLW puts their full eps on YouTube like 2 days after air

    That's a good strategy imo

Point being sure it's better to get paid than to pay a network. But AEW needs to take the best deal it can, and they're not necessarily negotiating with a whole lot of leverage here since wrestling isn't hot and they're not a proven commodity yet. So a network might be able to get AEW to pay them simply because they can. Course, hopefully for AEW that's not the case. Again, they need the best deal they can given their risky business model of paying the workers more with benefits while running less shows plus having an off season.
ECW has bigger issues than not being on TV. Paul Heyman personally believes that getting a deal would have saved it but the talent didn't agree at all. The company was in tremendous debit, Heyman owed a bunch of his talent money, some other really shitty business decisions on Paul's part. A TV deal wouldn't have saved them.

AOL and Time Warner merger is what fucked WCW. Ted Turner lost his power when the merger happened and he was the only reason why WCW lasted as long as it did. Turner executives wanted to kill it for years and did the first chance they got.

Asuka's kind of got a kabuki gimmick, so I'm ok with Kabuki warriors.

It's kinda cool that we've got wrestling on Turner again.

It's just sort of feels right, given the history wrestling has had on Turner stations all these years. And with a Rhodes running things no less.

I certainly think it's entirely possible both companies could have folded even with TV... that said, there's no way either could have survived without it. For WCW especially, when you've got talent with million dollar contracts, just doing house shows probably isn't going to earn you enough. Add benefits, a lighter schedule, and an off season and you're even deeper in the red. Fortunately all that is moot, because AEW apparently does have a TV deal.

according to reports, lars seems to be very remorseful for those posts and has been going around the locker room to various wrestlers and personally apologizing.

titus o'neil even tweeted that he was proud of lars trying to do better from the man he was all those years ago.

Given they were tweets he did years ago from what I understand, I suppose taking whatever punishment WWE dishes out and apologizing is all he can do.

James Gunn got a second chance, so why not Lars I guess. Not that the situations are identical by any means... but as long as he's not tweeting that stuff now I guess it's it's fine.

ECW needed a TV deal to survive because it meant being paid $$$ to air. Heyman needed that to keep ECW afloat and well...the Acclaim deal helped too. Because without TNN , the Acclaim deal wouldn't have happened either. Acclaim actually comically did more advertising for the fucking game than TNN did. Which as someone said had TNN actually put advertising resources behind ECW like they later did WWE ...they could have had a company tied to them for a long haul. (Plus Tommy and Paul sold Acclaim a 5% stake in ECW as well to get that deal done to keep things going).

The syndication costs were sinking ECW at the end as well. People always go , well why didn't Heyman sink back to syndication and forget competing. Well it costs a lot of money to run that syndication that ECW had then. Because they were on in markets across the country and costs were hitting them there too. I'm sure Paul was thinking 1 - I can pay the workers with a good TV deal 2 - I can slowly cut the syndication channels away and just keep maybe MSG and Sunshine Network possibly.

Also it wasn't just Turner executives just wanting to piss on WCW and kill it because it was wrestling. The company lost $60-80 million dollars. Which goes way , waaay beyond the early 1990's when the company would lose $6 million a year . After 2000 they weren't happy with the losses WCW would have and did try to sell the company for $50 million. Which Bischoff and Fusiant Media had a deal done as we know. He had it done and was gonna assume ownership in March/April and pause the shows til the Fall of 2001.

Blame Jamie Kellner for coming in and cancelling the shows. Then acting surprised that he cost the company millions in a sale. As Bischoff told him , you essentially made the product kinda worthless without the TV.

i don't think paying to be on a network would've helped WCW or ECW, they would've just lost more money before going out.

and TNA paying to be on tv helped them survive long enough to lose millions more so yeah i'm not sure i'd count that as a success either.

if AEW can't get paid for their content by a network than they should just stick to PPV for the time being, if that's not enough to survive so be it. id rather last a year and lose a million than "survive" 5 years and lose 10 million.

Also says resources are being pulled from WWE and channelled into XFL, so probably some budget cutbacks and roster cuts expected.
