Heck Batista vs. Roman, if Roman could go by the time Mania rolls around, could be kind of cool even. But Batista has beaten Triple H so much that IDK why he'd care now in-storyline. Also two middle-aged semi-retirees eating up a bunch of Mania time (because Triple H's performances at many are almost never short) doesn't really appeal to me.
I believe Batista has said in the past he wanted one last run in the WWE to feud specifically with Triple H. So WWE is probably just giving him what he wants.

You had that at 'Mania 30 (Bryan included) and a dozen other times in the 2000s. There would'nt be anything fresh about that either.

It wouldn't have but the WWE don't bring these guys back to wrestle the younger talent.

This isn't because they aren't trying to sell Wrestlemania to the internet die hards like us. They're trying to sell Wrestlemania to the casual audience. They need these crazy vignettes so ppl have something to watch on YouTube the next morning. The McMahons are in the storyline because they have the biggest name recognition to the casual audience.

You can look at it like they don't trust Becky/Ronda by themselves, but you can also look at it them investing in this--so much that it's clearly going to go last.

The Honky Tonk Man is the second inductee of this year's hall of fame.

He's probably the only one left who likes him that's willing to.

That would be a very likely choice. Jimmy Hart might work too but Lawler is family.

And it's not working. AT BEST it's exactly the same, if not a little less hyped:

It's also ironically become incredibly repetitive. Which is amazing considering that the angle is supposedly there to keep that from happening in the run up to Mania.

    -TWO injury angles.
    -TWO suspension angles.
-TWO "Becky runs in and attacks someone and then gets dragged out by security."
-Trips and Stephanie having to butt in constantly.
    -Charlotte cuts generic heel promo.
    -Etc.

They've piled on like half a year's worth of story, at least, into barely a month. Like wasn't the whole defense of this "oh they cannot just do the Becky and Ronda stuff for two months, it'll get stale." Well, this is getting stale. Plus they won't even let her talk when TALKING is one of her biggest strengths, so it's up to the commentary team to sell her motives and actions because she cannot herself, but they're just not doing a good job of that. And Vince has buggered off again so there's been no followup to that either.

Apparently Reigns informed Vince that he didn't want to wrestle at Crown Jewel before he had to vacate the title. Makes sense that he would be able to get out of it similar to Cena and Bryan.

If they're trying to redo Austin vs. McMahon with Becky like it seems they are, then Vince must have completely forgotten what made that all work. Austin got more than one token segment on Raw that ended with him being dragged away in the first hour and that's it. Vince was onscreen constantly as an ongoing foil to Austin. He didn't just show up one week, fire Austin, and then leave and that's it. It felt like he CARED about personally dealing with Austin, not so here with Becky.

Also Austin was constantly coming up with creative and fun ways to screw crap out and cause chaos, including regularly beating up Vince and his cronies, or humiliating them, or outsmarting them in various ways, so he felt like an ongoing threat. Becky hasn't done jack s**t to hurt Vince, and Trips and Stephanie are no-selling pretty much all of what she is doing (as they have an unfortunate habit of doing).

Instead of feeling like a badass constantly wreaking havoc until they goad the boss into playing right into their hands, Becky feels like a minor nuisance that the bosses don't really take seriously as a threat. And it coming down to Ronda having to plead for Becky to be brought back, and threatening to leave if she isn't, is the ultimate insult to the latter's character.

How does WWE so consistently forget what made stories work that THEY WROTE, it's baffling?

you know, it sickens me that people think that roman's whole illness was just a work to get him over.

it's almost like these people don't know a damn thing about leukemia.

even if this was true, it would make everyone in the E look terrible, from vince to roman to everyone connected to it. and in this day and age, it's SUPER hard to hide storylines.
