Whoever makes another Ultimates style team has to be very clear what their mission statement is.
Ewing's Ultimates were part F4 exploration-ish, part Illuminati-ish, part GoG-ish, and part Avenger-ish. No real, consistent defined goal.
I think, based on the hype and Rocafort, that it was supposed to be one of the "pillar" books but sales were so lackluster from the word go that it never had a chance to be important.
The book "fixed" the cosmic hierarchy and dealt directly with the aftermath of the incursions and such. But it just came across as a, "shit wrap it up!" because of sales. And, because of sales, it had to keep tying into events or the book would have died. Further making the book feel spastic as hell.
