Default Last Movie You Watched Part II, Electric Bugaloo

New thread as suggested by mod Matt.

Title as suggested by Information Geek in another thread. But more appropriate here.

Carousel, 1956. Filmed in Boothbay Harbor Maine, which I had just visited.

Rogers and Hammerstein doing what they do best.

Interestingly, Frank Sinatra was set to star in it, when he pulled out last minute to go to Africa to be with Eva Gardner.
Joel McCrae stepped in and did a fabulous job.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Okay, but I can't edit the title.

I did not like Alien Covenant. Too grim and a mean ending.

    Ah, Alien Covenant.

Few movies made me roll my eyes as often as that movie did.

Anyway, watched the Simpson movie today. (again obviously)

It still holds pretty decently in my opinion.

Outside of the medbay scene and the general scenery porn, Covenant was genuinely hilarious to me.

The last film I watched was The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007). I watched the movie all the time when I was younger, but I hadn't seen it since then. I was able to pick up on some details I had missed before, but I remember being a lot more invested in it previously. Still, even when I was younger I remember liking the remake better than I liked this sequel to the remake.

Finally watched Rogue One. Meh - supposed to be shocking that the leads died. The Force talk was so forced, so to speak. The space battles are truly unrealistic for a techy civilization. What else is new?

Saw Fantastic Voyage (part of) this morning. SFX still look good after all these years. Last full movie I saw was Them. Last animated movie was Justice League Dark.

    Shape of water
Kind of disappointing, predictable and formulaic. Did not go deep enough with the questions it raised. Liked Crimson Peak much better and am glad Hellboy is out of Del Toro's hands.

Do TV movies count? Yesterday I watched COLUMBO: "Swan Song" starring Peter Falk and Johnny Cash, from 1974.This was directed by Nick Colasanto, who many people know as Coach on CHEERS, but he was a prolific TV director. He directed a previous COLUMBO with John Cassavetes and Peter Falk. Both efforts give the actors a lot of room to play with the script.

There was a scene in this one that was so compelling. It's near the end, as Columbo is about to make a phonecall that will set the trap for Johnny's character. But before he makes the call, Columbo pauses and looks at Cash. He's playing the guitar--picking out a lovely tune that Johnny probably made up on the spot as they were filming. Falk looks at him and on his face you see a range of emotions. Without either saying a word, you realize that Columbo admires this man and his great talent and feels regret at making the call that ultimately will send him to prison. It's such a bittersweet moment, pefectly performed by Falk and Cash.

Kubo & The Two Strings - a really great movie.
The Waterboy. Just because I wanted to watch a stupid movie that was funny.
The Thing (1982). I really wanted to watch this movie when we were at a friend's house, but had to leave before the movie finished.

The Meg. Nothing spectacular, but passable.

    Watched yesterday:

    The Meg
Jason Statham + a gigantic, prehistoric shark = a rollicking good time.

    Really big "+1" here.

I came across that on television. Maybe a year ago? It is amazing what a truly solid piece of work that it is factoring in that it was just a plain old "Television" undertaking.

I'm kinda surprised you even bothered to watch it. (free on tv?)

if you wanted 'realism' you probably shouldn't be watching anything Star Wars oriented to begin with.

at least some Royal Marines played convincing extras, right? ;-)

After wanting to see it for years, I finally saw Zack Snyder’s Watchmen yesterday. Enjoyed it quite a bit, though the 3 hour Director’s Cut was exhausting.
