LUTHER: THE FALLEN SUN (2023)
dir. Jamie Payne
To quote Alyssa Edwards: this was garbage, mamaaaaaaa!!! I mean what an atrocious film! If you like this film, I can only politely tell you your knowledge and understanding of cinema must be so basic and illogical that a law should be past to make it a literal crime for you to be part of filmmaking. I don’t know who Hattie Morahan is, but she needs to quit acting. She’s awful. Truly awful. Emma Watson is more truthful and honest in her performances (and that’s a low f*ckin’ bar, let me tell you). The plot made no sense. It took suspension of disbelief to a level no sane person could withstand. Luther, as a character, had lost all realism. His once strong exterior that could hold his own in a fight has transformed into superhero mastermind ninja, taking on an entire prison of kung-fu warrior prisoners (all more concerned with fighting Luther - one at a time - than with escaping). Also, I tried to use IMDB to name and shame the fight choreographer but was unable to locate one, perhaps that was the problem. Piss poor choreographing, please go back to fight school. Luther as a series used to be more akin to Cracker with a bit of camp; this is now more akin to Crank (2006) with a bit of horror. Just abysmal. Tons of forced conflict, none of it set-up. Nothing was earned. Even Andy Serkis couldn’t save it (he was at-least not sh*t, which for this film, was the highest accolade you could aim for). That said his wigs were sh*t; never hire this hair&make-up department! ONLY Dermot Crowley remained enjoyable. The rest fell into one of three categories: the lost, the bad or the talentless. This was trash, and if you enjoyed it, by the power of association you are now also trash! You’re a trash garbage person for liking this film. Shame on you! Lastly I don’t know who casting directors Denise Chamian and Priscilla John are, but after seeing this I’m not sure I want to know. Fundamentally BAD at casting.
