Fantastic beasts and where to find them. Pretty great and excired for the crimes of grindelwald. I like Newt but he was too disconnected from the plot and overshadowed by the other three.

Watched Deadpool 2. It was ok but its schtick was getting forced. Too many cutesy comments to the audience. The afterlife sequence - forced for sequels. The trailers were funny though.

Grace Randolph has been good of late--even when I don't agree with her--but only by comparison with those really snarky dudes, as she can be abrasive as well. Nobody seems interested in doing a straight review of a movie, where they look at what the movie tried to accomplish and how well it succeeded in doing that. Then again, this could be because solid reviews don't get enough likes and get buried--while histrionics are rewarded and rise to the top.
Not a fan of Grace at all. She is a hot take machine and seems to revel in just saying things rather than analyzing the films. The Screen Junkies are pretty decent and I think they really fit the bill for what you're looking for. Dan Murrell seems to be one of the few movie reviewers on the internet who's not afraid of the word critic. Probably my favorite that I think you'd like is What the Flick. They feature a group of "real" film critics from various sources (Turner Classic Movies, Associated Press, Reuters, ect.) and tend to do a pretty good job of balancing looking at film from both an academic and entertainment standpoint.

Revenge (2017) sleazy exploitation revenge film, half of it is in French. Basically its T+A and gore and the end is so over the top it's almost funny.

Lady Bloodfight martial arts film about an american woman who goes to Hong Kong to search for her long lost father and somehow ends up in an underground fighting contest. The acting was so-so, but the fight coreography was pretty good.

Watched the 1967 Casino Royale, which is a spoof of the Bond franchise. It was miserable to sit through.

I've tried Screen Junkis and What the Flick. They're okay sometimes. I think 15 minutes is about the maximum I want for a review, unless it's a movie I'm really interested in and I want a deep dive. I do like when I find a blog that explains things I might have missed. After watching PRIMER, I found a video that did a good job of working out the timeline for everything that happens in the movie. Usually, I won't watch a long review before seeing a movie, unless it's a move I will probably never ever watch.

It's pretty hit and miss with older movies and small budget movies that aren't in wide release. The youtube reviewers are trying to get views, so they don't bother with movies that most people will never have a chance of seeing. Given the competition, maybe some reviewers are trying to get their video up as quickly as possible--and may have had only one chance to see the movie, under less than ideal conditions--so they're trying to reach a quick conclusion on the movie.

I've watched this movie at different times in my life. The first time, I was bored with it. But the most recent time, I was able to enjoy it. And that theme song. The movie may have been meh, but it had a great soundtrack from Burt Bacharach--which makes the exercise worthwhile in my book. I never get tired of hearing that music.

The Mummy is on right now. It's better than I expected. I'm actually looking forward to seeing if the Universal Monsterverse takes off. I hope its bad box office didn't change the plan -- I'll have to look it up.

Iron Man. I was at the Toronto Fan Expo and on Sunday, I found a used copy of Iron Man Blu-ray on steelbook and wanted to make sure it wasn't damaged or anything. I watched the movie from beginning to end and man is it a lot of fun. Again, a great performance by Robert Downey Jr. and just an all out great movie.

I do agree that the soundtrack is pretty good. I was kind of on board with the movie for the first 20 minutes or so just for this goofy take on the Bond films but after that point it just got super tedious for me.

There were a number of madcap movies made like this in the 1960s, where they were jammed packed with stars of the day and filled with comedy bits, action and beautiful women. WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT (1965) is a perfect example of the type. With the advent of TV and the death of the old style Hollywood movies, the film industtry was desperate to find a new formula to bring audiences back into the vacant theatres. I suppose these types of movies would be great for the drive-in, where the audience might only pay half attention to the movie, while the soundtrack provided background music for what else they were up to.

    KULL THE CONQUEROR.

I liked it. I had never seen it all just parts, but I found it entertaining with some really nice visuals. And speaking of visuals, I had never realized just how handsome Kevin Sorbo was (and maybe still he is). I was seriously drooling lol. The score was also good. Reminded me of the rock music in the film 300.

I've seen some of RLM and they're just too snarky for my taste. They're doing schtick--which is fine. Everyone is entertained by different things. And I like stuff for pure entertainment purposes, not to be taken seriously--such as Honest Trailers or Pitch Meeting. Folks need to find their own hook, to get popular on social media. However, I was looking for critiques I can take seriously--which might be dry and boring--but I find them useful for understanding things about a movie that I missed. I'm not looking for judgement, thumbs up or down, I want insight--what is this movie trying to do, how does it go about that, what other influences is the director drawing from.
