I honestly think the anime elevates the manga by a considerable margin. There are many things in manga that I didn't feel any special when I read it, but in anime looks amazing. And this might not be a popular opinion, but I think the manga hasn't been really good for over a year.

Also, yeah, Chuunin Exams beat Sports Festival.

    Pardon me for intruding...
I've always had a question but never thought to voice it.

Figured this would be a good place.

Back in the mid-90s, I came into anime, during one of the big pushes in America.

TBS had played Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival...
MTVs Aeon Flux borrowed some of the style and they played Ninja Scroll...

Meanwhile, the video rental places in my town started adding a shelf of anime, which included Ghost in the Shell, Bubblegum Crisis, Akira, the Slayers, Crying Freeman, Tenchi Muyo, Ranma and a few others...
Oh, and of course they got La Blue Girl, too, by accident. LOL.

Plus, a co-worker let me borrow The Hakkenden, which was pretty good.

And then in comics, Viz had an extraordinary anthology, titled Manga Vizion that had two features I liked reading: Samurai Crusader and Ogre Slayer.
But I had to stay on watching for the issues, and once I missed a couple issues it became hard to catch back up.

Okay... so my question goes something like this...

The cutesy-big eye stuff (like Ranma) tends to be referred to as BESM...
Is there a name (official or not) for the more serious stye of anime in the vein of Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Bubblegum Crisis, Vampire Hunter D and Crying Freeman, or the Samurai Crusader manga?
The most common features tend to be more angular appearances, especially in the chin, nose and eyes, but sometimes bordering a more realistic look (like 'Presence' in Robot Carnival).

Reminds me, I watched the Bluray for the movie, Two Heroes, last week. It was pretty good despite the usual weakness of most movies set during an ongoing series (namely that it feels like a side adventure that won't impact any future episodes).

Opening episode of season 2 has some good animation, episode 02 of the current season of Onepunch Man is more like watching a motion comic.

Maybe there aren't any, cause it sounds to me like this stuff is unnecessary.

Knowing that show is produced by Seven I'm curious if it will become porn at some point.

I watched Hero Mask on Netflix recently. While I thought the animation could have been better, I kinda enjoyed the story. The reviews I've seen seemed to be mixed though.

I was skeptical of Star Blazers 2201 since I figured Spaceship Yamato didn't really need a sequel, but it has been pretty good so far, and, in some ways, is better than the original.

    Just finished Gundam Unicorn.

While the "alternate" Gundam series usually are the ones with overpowered suits, this one I think kind of has that too with the Unicorn's many OTT abilities.

It sort of feels a bit like a companion to Char's counterattack (Which, while it ended the "rivalry" story didn't really resolve the conflict), kind of explains why Zeon remnants aren't a big deal by the time of F91 and V.

Also of course had a ton of references and some of the more obscure mecha as easter eggs, such as the base from 0083 and of course Bright and some others getting involved....and the Char "clone" this time being an actual clone seems like a bit of a nod to that Gundam trope (Although La Cruset was kind of a clone but that's of course another continuity and a weirder story).

Seemed pretty expensive-looking too, probably one of the most visually ambitious Gundam series since 0083 (Some of the CG was a bit rough/stilted in the transformation sequences though).

Watched the first two episodes of Demon Slayer last night. Man! What an incredible show, sporting some of the best animation I've seen this season while the story was both chilling and heartbreaking. Well worth watching!

I'm about to go on vacation so I haven't started anything from this season yet, but Demon Slayer is going to be near the top of the list when I get back.

Yes, it has become porn when I recently watched Nobunaga Teacher's Young Bride episodes 2-3.

It's more like ecchi than hentai. Fan service is quite not half-bad
