MARVEL's NETFLIX Heroes Have 2-Year No-Appearance Clause In Any Other Projects - Report

Although Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist don't have a future at Netflix - they may not be appearing anywhere for the next two years due to a clause in the Walt Disney Company's original 2013 agreement with Netflix, according to Deadline.

The Hollywood trade reports that the characters which debuted in the shows - as well as the shows themselves - are effectively mothballed from any non-Netflix projects for two years from the date of their cancellation. If we go by the dates their cancellations were announced, these clauses would elapse October 15, 2020 for Iron Fist, October 22, 2020 for Luke Cage, and November 29, 2018 for Daredevil.

A similiar window of exclusivity for DVD and Blu-ray editions of Marvel's Netflix shows has led to those physical releases coming out 18 to 24 months after their streaming debut.

This clause doesn't seem to preclude actors from these shows from appearing in other non-Netflix Marvel projects; both Stan Lee and Alfre Woodard have appeared as different characters on both sides of the Netflix/Marvel Studios divide.

THR also notes that The Punisher - whose second season is said to debut in January - was not part of the initial Marvel/Netflix deal, and therefore may not (or may) be subject to this clause. However since Punisher debuted in Daredevil before being spun off, these contract terms are very unclear.

Marvel's initial deal with Netflix was announced October 2013, with their flagship show - Daredevil - debuting in April 2015.

I expect to see a lot of these sentiments.... I don't BELIEVE them, but I expect people to say it. There was obviously some kind of static higher on the chain of command between Marvel and Netflix... way above any of the actor's paygrade. And when push comes to shove, you just GOTTA try to make Marvel/Disney look like the good guys. If you want to play Daredevil or any marvel character again... you side with the winners. That's just basic.
