I remember like 13 years ago maybe..there used to be a forum called ComiXtreme I think. I created a thread called "Does Superman stand any chance against Dr. Doom?" That damn thread kept going for over 6 months..they used every version of Superman at his most elite to fight all logic and sense of a instant Doom prep victory. Lol. Good times.
Where is Valeria these days?
Those Maleev paintings are gorgeous!
Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?
She's still with the family. Their travels in the multiverse caused everyone to age 5 years so she's now a bit more believable as a young prodigy in the sciences when she looked like a toddler. But then artists were always inconsistent in how she looked and how tall she is.
I know, right? It just tickles me that he's still doing Doom portraits and the series ended over a year ago. I wish they had continued it with a new writer but were able to keep him as artist. But I know he does some creator owned stuff with Bendis too.
I like the blue one and how it reveals a bit of his face. I like that he did it unscarred and not how it is currently.

I just thought about this; the Byzantine halo.
In a way Doom in gold could be referencing back to that, which is of course used by the Byzantine royalty and depiction of religious figures. Doom after-all is our favorite God-Emperor and so naturally his chosen face is brighter than a thousand suns indicative of his god-hood.
Yeah it's a stretch but I freaking love his work and will justify it any way I can.

The movie news for Doctor Doom coming into the MCU is looking brighter these days than they did a couple years ago. The Disney/Fox deal is still being worked out and so far it looks like there will be no more roadblocks in the way. Even better is that Marvel Studios blockbuster directors the Russo Brothers are ready and waiting to get him into the MCU. In a recent interview with Business Insider, Joe Russo talks about what he's like to see happen:
Back in June, Hawley said he had finished writing his script for a Doom solo movie but the pending Fox/Disney deal had complicated thingsWhile talking to Business Insider last week, Joe said that he wanted to see Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom in the MCU, specifically "Fargo" and "Legion" creator Noah Hawley's take.
"I'd love to see Noah's interpretation of that character," Joe said. "Anything that Noah does."
Hawley is developing a solo Doctor Doom movie for Fox, but Hawley told Business Insider in June that there was "some uncertainty" about the movie's future because of the Disney-Fox merger.
"I think the question now revolves around the merger of Fox and Disney and whether that happens, and what would happen to all those Marvel projects once it does," Hawley said. "There is some uncertainty there. I think the film studio [Fox] would like to move quickly and make the movie, that's my hope. Now we're just talking about how and when we are going to do that."
I've always been anxious to see what Hawley has in mind because he sounds like he "gets" the character.
Earlier this year he revealed in an interview with the Observer what his plans are if he were able to get his Doom solo movie into production..
As with Legion, my thought was that the [superhero] genre has a certain kind of movie covered, but what else can the genre do,” Hawley told Observer. “What’s interesting to me about Doom’s character is he’s the king of an Eastern European country and is there a version of this that is more of a political thriller that mixes genre?”
The creator/showrunner pointed to a recent successful example in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as a starting point for his own story.
“It’s something that [Captain America] Winter Soldier did really well, which was kind of make a Cold War thriller movie out of a superhero movie. This is different than that, but it does have this idea of, and I don’t want to say too much about it, but it is a mixture of genres,” he explained. “The mandate is not to re-launch the Fantastic Four franchise as much as it is to take this fascinating and under-served character and really build a movie about him where we ask the question: Is he a hero? Is he a villain? What does he really want?”
“We’re able to explore these questions in a serious way,” Hawley added.
Wow!!! So much cool stuffs!
Gorgeous Doom in gold by Maleev, and almost perfect vision of the character and of the ways to try different genres with the superheroes movies by Hawley...
I want that movie. And an art book dedicated to Doom by Maleev. And he should work on the movie too btw...
- To Tammy and the Blue Rose !
Cyclops was SO DAMN RIGHT, BABY
Pull list: X-23, Mr. & Mrs. X, Extermination, Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider, Uncanny X-Men
Have been informed that the Black Swans are "only seeking female members, but thank you very much for your time"
I wish Maleev would get a book of his Marvel work published. I have the one they did for Marko Djurdjevic called the Marvel Art of Marko Djurdjevic. There's one of his covers featuring Doom in that one. I'll have to pull it out when I gets home. They had a series of those also featuring Mike Deodato, Joe Quesada and John Romita Jr.
I should get Alex Ross's Marvelocity that just came out this year too. Maybe Santa will get it for me!
