I know we should be glad that Rebirth gave us Hal Jordan back as Green Lantern, but honestly New Frontier was the book that really got that ball rolling. Darwyn Cooke was the man
I love Tomar-Re, but honestly his death scene was one of my favorite comic book moments ever. The way his ring chose John Stewart, only to have John say "But I'm already a Green Lantern" With his last words Tomar says 'Yes, but you're wearing Hal Jordan's ring...." Then to have the rings switch over and both of them are back in the corp... That was just a powerful scene for me. I would hate to see it retconned or for him to somehow come back.
On a separate note... Has anything ever been done with Goldface in... decades? I think I last saw him in Guy Gardner's solo back in the 90's. Now that they've removed the yellow weakness again, he's kind of pointless... but I always liked him.
Cooke's New Frontier was sort of a spiritual sequel to Robinson's Golden Age. In turn, I would love another great creator to give their take on the 1960s era, from the rise of the Teen Titans to The Creeper, dealing with the turbulent events surrounding the Cuban Missile Crisis, the assassination of JFK, MLK & RFK and the Vietnam War.
Thanks for the feedback. The Earth-3 characters are indeed opposites with their version of the Justice League being the Crime Syndicate. Their GL type character was called Power Ring who was killed by our Earth's Sinestro - with that ring going to Jessica Cruz following Power Ring's death. Venditti talked about wanting to do Earth-3 versions of the GLC which could have been fun to see.
