By the way renee montoya in comics and cartoons is a racially brown latina.
Rosie Perez is latina but she is not brown, she is black.
Lot of black people have mostly white blood.I think back in the days of segregation by law if you had something like 1/16 African blood you were considered black.
There some black people that have mostly white blood, but it's not alot, but there is some.

In comics or superhero comics or other comicbook media this does not exist by way and if the character is black or east asian, gene wise in comics they are either 100%,50% or 75% black or east asian in comics(Different laws, different history, different universes etc.. etc..)
Things are kept simple as possible
For latinos for example in america in real life most latinos are classified as white, but in comics like dc,marvel, image etc.. most are shown to be people of color.

It was sort of the one drop rule. If you had one drop of black blood, you were black.
Hmmmm I’m not sure how this works in US. But in many parts of the world, you would follow your father’s race in your identification.

You guys are getting into some wonky discussion about genes and race. Race isn't a scientifically valid category, it's a socially constructed one, so how people define themselves varies across space and time.

She is 54 years old. I was excepting they would cast someone a bit younger, around 30-35.

I'm guessing they wanted someone to play the "denmother" role. With all the other characters being around 30 and Cass being a younger teen, Renee probably being the mentor type could be interesting to see.

They maybe also wanted her to be more of a contemporary of Gordon (JK Simmons is in his 60's) and even Batman is like mid-40's in the DCEU.

When I think "denmother" of the BOP I think Oracle and Black Canary, but the former isn't going to be in it and we're not sure what characterization they're going with for the latter.

Which is kind of weird since Montoya is also usually supposed to be much younger then Gordon.

Is Montoya even supposed to be a team member in that movie?

Well, she's probably going to be heavily involved with the team considering she was listed when the main cast was announced.

Glad WB actually made a smart move and picked him up.

Should be a good fit for him too, given Gunn's focus on group dynamics, family, and redemption.

I think James Gunn would be a great fit for a Green Lantern movie. But man, getting the guy to direct the sequel to the movie that ripped off his movie has got to be the biggest power move DC has made in years.

This news made me smile from ear-to-ear. It's the perfect fit for him. His grasp of humor with epic storytelling will fit well with these characters
